Looking for any thoughts or insight on Backbarrow as a place to live. I'm looking for a base in South Lakes area when I move back to UK from abroad over the summer. For example, is it mostly second homes and Airbnb properties, rather than full time residents. There are some nice modern apartments for sale in the Ironworks development. Thanks!
I've never lived there but I'm very local, I can't imagine it's too interesting as there's really not much there. You'll need to drive to get near any sort of amenities, but if that (and the reasonable social isolation) doesn't bother you it could be fine. It is rather pretty!
I'd resent that big road that goes by if I lived there but I did see an osprey along the river there once so it's clearly a lovely spot.
What's wrong with the A590? 🙊
Nothing is inherently wrong with the A590. But I personally couldn't live so close to a 60mph road. The noise, litter, brake dust, pollution and car accidents really put me off being anywhere near a 'big road'
Swan pub and Huntsman as locals, you need a car mind to get about, beautiful setting, Ulverston nearest (big) shops although there is a garage not too far with a londis, fell foot a kayak away, yea could be alright, not sure on any schools etc. nearby. Check UK Gov flood map before buying
