Wanted to check out a local thrift store for the first time, found a bag FULL of DMC skeins in the DIY section... for $10 I now have over 165 skeins. Absolutely floored and now need to find a bunch of projects for these.

Youโll find something soon, I found a 5lb bag of embroidery floss on mercari for $30. Was definitely worth it. I gave a few to my friends and kept most. It was an absolute mess but definitely worth it.
Amen
LOL. Amen!
Instant stash. Cute bag, too!
Right? It looks handmade for someone's craft collection once upon a day. Very nifty idea.
Nice! Just make sure to double bag and freeze ALL of it for a couple days, to kill any pests.
Definitely going to figure something out along these lines, freezer is broken so afraid that's not an option currently
spritz with unflavored vodka to sanitize maybe?
Would rubbing alcohol work just as well?
to be honest, i'm not sure. i just saw something very recently about how vodka can be used to sanitize delicate clothing without leaving a smell. i assume rubbing alcohol would also work well but i've also only used that on electronics personally.
Alcohol might make them bleed.
Plastic trashbag left out in the heat.
Now you go shopping in your stash before heading out to purchase skeins. I have a friend who is no longer doing counted cross stitch due to her arthritic fingers and she gave me her stash. I am sure I am not going to need to purchase any for a long time either.
Oh, how kind! Good for you both. ๐
how does it feel to be blessed be the embroidery gods?
t'was a glorious day indeed haha
Wow, so lucky!! Great! I am really jelaous ๐ 16 cent per skein ๐ฅน and such a beautiful bag in addition.
How are the ziplocks held to the outer bag? I am curious how I would replace the ziplocks if I made one of these for myself.
Me, too! I was wondering if they would be brittle, at if so, how new ones would be reattached.
Looks like they may have been heat sealed to each other on the bottoms, 2 ziplock bags each, then attached to the center of the cloth keeper with that blue velcroed piece in the middle (run through each set of 2 heat sealed bags). Just a guess...
I'll take a look tomorrow and report back (and figure out how to attach images to comments)!
My reaction:
First pic - Oh, what a cute bag!
Second pic - gasps, mouth hanging open
Third pic - jaw drops a little more, eyes widen
This is an amazing find! You definitely got lucky there.
Right?? Literally my reaction in the store!
๐๐๐ Same!!! ๐ฎ๐ฑ
SCORE!!!!
Wow! I think I might have squealed loudly, embarrassing myself, in the thrift store! ๐คช Fantastic find!!!
haha trust me, I was doing all I could to be quiet and not alert any other potential stitchers in the area ๐
I love it! You were probably telling yourself to just act casual! ๐๐๐
I am so jealous!
Such a great find!!! Would love to buy the thread off of you if you don't use it. I'm an avid cross stitcher and always in need of thread!
Maybe! I have to go through and organize/see how much of what is there. Currently out of town so might be some time before I can track the numbers vs. what I already have, still haven't gotten around to an online tracker sheet
HOLY MOLY GREAT FIND!!
So envious! Great find!๐๐ป๐
Amazing!!!
Dude I thrift and hope this happens to me too one day so cool! Also is that a storage bag they still make? That bag is cool too
It seems completely handmade, it's such a nifty idea for storage on the go!
I'd check to be sure the colors haven't changed. I bought a kit from the 80's off of e-bay, and it came with pre-cut floss on hole punched paper, and some of the colors were a dead on match to my modern stash, but not all.
WOW!
Holy moly, this is like finding a purse with $5000 in it except you don't have to give it to the police.
