Sadly I don't have oven, just stove and bottle of red wine, which I don't like to drink. I want to try some beef recipe with red wine, but I'm limited with kitchen appliances. Please, give any ideas how to cook beef without oven.
Yep, it works great and is one of the best meals
Bourdain's beef bourguignon one pot stovetop recipe is easy to make.
there are a million ways to cook beef on a stovetop. unless you bought a big pot roast, which is weird thing to buy if you don't have an oven. do you have pans or a pot with a lid?
Yes. As the kitchen area is small, I don't have a lot of things too. And I have just some small pieces of beef because it was on sale.
if it's small pieces you can make yourself a stew. there are some with wine in the recipes.
Dutch oven, stovetop.
Big frying pan or pot, low low heat on the stovetop.
Start by browning the beef, frying up some onion, garlic and roots (carrots for my money, but turnip or sweet potato would also be great) then add your red wine and a little bit of stock (or stock powder and water). Bring it to a simmer, put a lid on and leave it for a couple hours. It's essentially the same thing you'd do in an oven, with a lower heat the direction doesn't matter as much.
Nice and simple! Does it need occasional stirring?
Once an hour isn't going to hurt anything, but you don't have to :)
Thanks a lot, Doc!
Beef burgundy. Gonna need a 5-7 quart Dutch Oven (enameled cast iron pot)
Not sure what the English name is, but there's little cast iron plates that you put on your stove which heat up and evenly spread the heat to your pan, avoiding scorching the bottom and allowing for lower, stabler simmering.
Most stews in the world are made on a stove, no oven.
If you don't like red wine, I don't recommend cooking with it.
Readers, stop recommending beef bourguignon. OP did not say the wine was a burgundy.
It's dry red wine
"Bourguignon" is "Burgundy" in French. Of course you can still make beef stew with red wine (blech), but it would not be boeuf bourguignon.
you can get the chewy beef pieces the one's no one buys, braise them off in a pot about a 5 litre pot, with butter, pour in your bottle of red, and cook on a low heat for at least two hours. add your veggies, and seasoning, top up with water, simmer for another hour or two.
Buy a crockpot
Can't, it's too expensive right now.
I do beef stews on the stovetop all the time. Beef Bourguignon, any beef in red wine recipe will do, its lovely. just use a pot with a heavy bottom
