I live in Europe, so I think legally speaking I should be able to. I’m more concerned about their shelf life.
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to bring one back because they’re so expensive to buy and ship here and restrictions don’t allow the black foot in the US. Hope you’re able to get the answers you need.
We bought several packs of jamon to bring home to the US, and then found out we couldn’t bring any of it home. So we ate all of it in two days.
It was delicious, but I still get the meat sweats looking at pictures of jamon
I'm visiting Barcelona at the moment and it amazes me that at the big open air markets like the Mercato Boqueria they've got the hams hanging in 30C weather with just a cup underneath to collect dripping fat.
They can last for a few years if stored properly. I've seen them taken out of the seal and rubbed in fat and stored in refrigerators for multiple years, even enhanced the flavors tbh.
Should be fine as long as the bag is vacuum packed and you leave it in a cool dry place. I’ve also removed them from the bag and hung them in the cool dry dark spot. Key is to not let us catch mold and also prevent it from drying up if you lose too much moisture (layer of that fat helps in that case).
If you live In the US you can not bring back a whole jamon.
