Building my army, don't have the codex yet and I didn't check before I was locked out of the app.
I have almost 2000 points worth and realized I don't have a big fuck you tank and I want one. Does Chaos have any?

I bought myself a land raider and it hasn't disappointed me yet. Lots of firepower, high toughness, plenty of wounds and it can transport too. I like to use it as a mobile frack off palace. Its got the stats to be in a fight with other tanks and come out on top before it rolls up the board to drop off my chosen squad with a chaos lord. And to make it scarier, I have a warpsmith who runs behind it. He uses the landraider to avoid line of sight while healing and buffing. And if people try to flank, out come the chosen squad. Because the land raider has a boarding ramp rule, they can make a charge the turn they're dropped off.
This isn't the meta, just a chaos player passionate about his landraider. Sorry to ramble.
Nah man I use mine to deliver a Lord, MoE, and a brick of Chosen right where they need to be too, it’s scary as hell. It can even take Chosen + Abaddon too if you wanna go that route.
Also the Warpsmith special rule gives him lone operative if he’s next to it anyway, super cool.
But like for context the Land Raider doesn’t come close to matching something the loyalist weaklings can bring or Imperial Guard (we should have a corrupted Baneblade)
I share your enthusiasm for this.
My best friend plays imperial fists and I've outdone him in tanks even when land raider is alone and he brings two. But he hasn't brought a tech marine when I always bring the warpsmith so I think that's giving me an edge.
And the warpsmiths lone operative rule is nice, but it isn't what it used to be. When lone operative was 12 inches, I would set the warpsmith up beside two forgefiends. But because we play against each other so regularly he knows and plans on units that get into that sweet spot at 18 inches.
I play as the deceptors detachment. I love MoE with chosen and lord. Ontop of that, the cursed fang is given to my chaos Lord so he also gets the precision rule. I love the look on any opponents face when I tell them not one but two characters are diving straight for their characters. Most cherished memory of that is bringing Ghaz'kul down in the charge. Even shouted Waaaaaagh as I rolled for the charge.
Lone op is actually still 12", the dataslate didn't change that. Strategems that prevent a unit being shot outside of a certain distance all got modified to be 18", but the lone operative ability is still the same.
Give that filthy worshipper of the corpse emperor the thrashing he deserves!
Wait, what? WHAT!?!?!
Yep, lone op is still just as powerful as it was. In fact, even more so now, as they've patched the loophole in the rules that let tsons players ignore it for doombolt
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Now, do I run two forgefiends or stick with the land raider.... 🤔 . Or just go woth a joke army, buy another warpsmith and do both?!
Excess is always best. Do both :D
Also worth pointing out that it's only strategems that have been affected, abilities like the space marine phobos librarian stopping the squad he's leading from being shot, are still 12" as well, so be aware your opponent might make use of this knowledge as well
We used to have the real big tanks a few editions ago in the warzone and apocalypse books, (also the forge world traitors and renegades book).
I've got a Plaguereaper of Nurgle, a traitor Baneblade and Stormlord just collecting dust on the shelf.
Any recommendations on where to get a kit? Just saw they are sold out and wow the price of them on ebay. Maybe I should just kitbash a space marine land raider?
This is the way.
Oh wows it beautiful! Are those GW bits or should I look on etsy or something?
Thanks! The Chaos bits are 3d prints I did myself. You can source official bits, Etsy and other shops for 3rd party, or print if you have one.
This sounds like what I'm looking for. The Lord of Skulls is cool but I'm going more for an unaligned army.
I dunno but my vindicator takes enough models off the board that it’s become the thing players hate going up against
Even with it's swinginess people hate seeing them and hate seeing two even more.
One of the biggest F U's to an opponent is pulling out the Defiler! No one ever wants to see the Defiler on the table for many, many reasons! CRAB-TANK FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!(*Loss.. you brought a defiler, you're not going to win)!!!!!! YEAH DEFILER!!!!!
If you count legends, then the Mastodon, if not then land raider
Mastodon is big but it isnt really a tank, a Fellblade or Glaive.
If pure plastic we also got the Kratos.
I think chaos doesn’t specialize in tanks, but we have other big cool stuff. Lord of skulls (which is sort of a tank) is probably your best bet
Not a tank but I’m considering running a list with knight desecrator: 72” 3 shoots on 2+ 18 str -4 ap, d6+3 with some ridiculous melee, and dev wounds when attacking a vehicle. Standing in the back, sniping enemy tanks, sturdy enough to sit on a obj, with mele good enough to kill stuff that gets into his range.
Defiler is a good one with soul forged detachment
Magnus lol
KRATOS
Biggest gun
Quad lascannon sponsons.
Compared to that legend, I don't think anything in the codex qualifies as "big" or "fuck you".
The other variants like the Fellblade are also cool.
Also shout out to its little brother (still bigger than a land raider), the Kratos Heavy Assault Tank.
Maybe the biggest that the codex has is more "medium" and "mild mannered" like the Land Raider or Vindicator?
Lord of skulls and land raider , however, lord of skulls isn’t your traditional vehicle for it is also part a dude, a tank centaur if you will. Additionally, you might want to modify some bits if you don’t run Knorn related army because he has some symbols.
There is however one more option , it is a part of legends index, meaning that you can’t use them in tours and other sweaty places, this option is the Kratos tank from 30k, I THINK it is the biggest tank tank right now, there is another legends unit - Behemoth, but despite being called a tank, it doesn’t look like one.
Sicaran Battle Tank, Fellblade, Falchion, if youre playing for fun it doesnt matter but theyre very expensive points wise for what youre getting. But if you wanted somewhat good falchion + warpsmith and it becomes decent with a 12d big fuck-off cannon.
Lord of Skulls
Mastodon
Don't get locked out, newrecruit.eu for everything regarding units and wahapedia for army rules
CSM needs rules for the Astraeus...
Outside of Legends rules….Land Raider probably. Khorne Lord of Skulls is a more fuck you model though.
