Yank visiting the UK in a few weeks for my honeymoon. What do I get at Greggs?
Steak bake.
2 Sausage rolls and a chicken bake.
Nice.
Good combo.
Sausage roll, steak bake and a sausage, cheese & bean bake. Particularly that sausage, cheese & bean bake because it's pretty much the UK in one golden puff pastry taste sensation.
If you promise to turn up in your wedding outfits, Greggs press office will probably offer you an 'all you can eat' deal.
I'd favour / favor a cheese and onion bake.
Gonna see if I can talk the wife into wearing her wedding dress for an 8 hour international flight.
Google "Greggs wedding cake"
Oh my good lord.
Perhaps wait and get her a Greggs Valentines Box.
Cheese and bean melt
As a brit now living in your fine country, I'll tell you what I miss the most. Steak bake, sausage roll, sausage bean & cheese melt, and I'd have a go at whatever the seasonal offering is. They do a decent black coffee and/or hot chocolate, as I remember.
I hope, whatever you dig into, that you enjoy it as much as I miss it.
As an American who lived in the UK for a long while, I concur. Instantly hungry at the thought of these three.
1 of everything
You might want to manage your expectations if you think Greggs is going to be amazing food. It's fast comfort fuel.
I have no illusions. I know what I’m in for.
If you like a good quality sausageroll, go to Greenhalghs.
Disappointment
I can get that stateside. Does British disappointment taste different?
It’s just very cheap so place your expectations accordingly. Definitely worth checking out for fun but also see if you can find independent bakeries selling pasties / pies / sausage rolls as there’s will be better.
*theirs
It does from Greggs.
We British revel in disappointment and live for the whinge.
I think the best thing to bear in mind whilst you're eating ultimately is the price - quality ratio.
Greggs food isn't the best but part of the reason it has such a rep (beyond the memes) is that you can basically get quite a lot of perfectly reasonable food to eat on the go for a quick work lunch or breakfast for around £4 ($5 equivalent) and there are few places in the UK or the US where you can get that sort of value.
I used to get a sausage roll (my gf got a cheese and onion bake) on the walk to uni. Mine was £1.25 ($1.60) and hers was £2.25 ($2.80). At that time of day especially when in a bit of a rush there's very little else you can get on the go for that price and warm that isn't insane.
Bean-flavoured
I was gonna say: get the f-ck out of there
Sausage roll. Thats all.
Make sure it's a fresh hot one from the counter and not the cold 4 packs that are on the shelves.
This is the correct answer. Everything else is garbage.
It's cheap so you could try everything over a few days.
cheese and onion pasties and a sausage roll
Just grab all the savoury stuff mate.
Greggs coffee did have bonkers levels of caffeine and it was more affordable than the coffee shops.
If you are renting a house with oven, you can buy enough frozen Greggs branded food from supermarket chain Iceland to discretely put on a lot of weight.
You can buy shares if you like but they look a bit over valued at present.
Literally everything. And a packet of Yum Yums- they’re basically just square doughnuts but for some reason they’re amazing.
Yum Yum.
The Pork Wellington
Once you’ve done all the classics, go back for breakfast and get a Breakfast Baguette of bacon, plus two extra bacon plus red sauce.
Avoid Greggs. Go to proper pubs and have steak and ale pie.
Both I think, although if I was going to pick the quintisential pub bar snack it'd be more a cling film wrapped cheese/onion sandwich.
God no, if you're having a proper pub snack it's a packet of Mr Porky's, a packet bacon/scampi fries and wash it down with a pint of something local.
Should perhaps have said pub "lunch". For a snack I'd go with all those things.
Botulism.
Diarrhoea
Sausage roll and a square of pepperoni pizza
sausage roll
Steak bake & corned beef pastie 👍
Chicken bake and a caramel custard doughnut
Chicken bake for definite
Sausage roll and a sausage egg and bean bake
Sausage roll and a mature cheese and ham toasty.
Steak bake and a pink jammy doughnut.
I’m here in support of the cheese and onion pasty, followed by a steak bake, a sausage roll and a can of fanta after would be epic.
Imagine turning down a honeymoon on white sandy beaches and tropical cocktails to come experience grey skies, tesco car parks and greggs. What the hell is wrong with you?!?
Well, there is Brighton or Rye. Or Cornwall. Lovely in summer.
Honestly if you're gonna take Brighton over Bermuda or Cornwall over Barbados then you're a nutty who needs his head examined.
Besides he's probably going to London anyway, which is whole other breed of masochist.
Snarky service.
Fat.
Its just junk food.
Nah im just kidding, try their sausage roll, apparently they are delicious but i have never eaten one from there.
Get an over priced coke
So unfortunately the nearest Greggs to the Bude Tunnel is 35 mins away. I suggest you get a sausage roll, steak bake and cheese & bean melt. Have the steak bake in the taxi and wrap the other items up well. Have the sausage roll as you begin strolling through the Bude Tunnel and save the cheese and bean melt for your post tunnel comedown.
It's just low grade speed food, don't bother. It's not *bad*, it just isn't going to be a worthwhile experience. Would personally try and find a small bakery or cornish pasty place.
I quite like the 4 sausage roll and ham and cheese baguette combo. You can peel 2 sausage rolls out of their pastry and slip them nicely into the baguette. Also if you get a steak bake or chicken bake you can fit sausage rolls comfortably into the top of them too for a quite tasty combo.
Cheese pasty
Indigestion?
Steak bake, Belgian bun, maybe some yum yums
Nothing it’s honestly gross
The most traditional thing to get is a cornish or steak pastie I think.
It is very oily food, bring tums
I’d try a little selection of everything. But I will say you’ve made me really miss the spicy nacho cheese thing they did briefly that thing was the bomb
Sausage, Bean & Cheese Slice is my go to Greggs Pastry.
Sausage roll and an eclair for pudding
Cheese and onion
Steak bake /bacon butty.
Sausage roll, steak bake followed by a yum yum.
Gecko fried toast.
Diarrhea
Directions to Wenzels.
Fat.
Why Gregg's? It's horrible quality food.
I never quite understood the love for them. I think it's some kind of reverse snobbery.
I get the reverse snobbery for greasy spoons - they can be satisfyingly simple, cheap and tasty - but Greggs just doesn't taste any good and makes you feel nauseous afterwards.
Walk in and follow your heart, and then add a sausage roll to whatever you order.
Yum yum
A lukewarm cheese and onion pasty.
Fatter
There are far better bakers of baked goods than Greggs. It’s like going to NY and asking what you should get from Dominoes.
It is important that you visit Greggs, because all comparisons need a baseline. After Greggs, find an independent baker and try their offerings, like sausage rolls, pasties and whatever specialities they may have. After that, you will never darken Greggs door again.
Also, find a lovely country pub, wherever you are, and eat there.
Whatever came out of the oven last.
Vegan sausage roll.
All the fragile meat-eaters downvoted you, but I live for the vegan sausage rolls.
One of everything.
Nothing. You're better off going to a supermarket like Morrisons with a bakery. Or an independent bakery, depending on where you're going.
Greggs is indigestion in a paper bag. It's shit.
indigestion.
Chlamydia
You don't if your down south find a reeves if you know you know.
steak bake
cornish pasty
sausage rolls
then see what else they have and maybe pick out something you like sound of. they have a lot of other options like chicken bake etc
Assuming Greggs does one a Vanilla/Custard Slice and if they don't go somewhere that does.
I don't know what the hate is for vanilla slices, especially as I don't think they're an American thing.
Meat pie sausage roll cmon England gives us a goal
