One thing I'm proud to say I've never done is smoked a cigarette. Growing up, I saw too many loved ones struggle with quitting, and it just never appealed to me. Plus, I'd rather spend my money on things that actually make me happy, like video games and tacos.
What are you proud to say you have never done?
I’ve never drank any alcohol. My dad is an alcoholic and I remember one time when I said I’d never drink that he basically scoffed and said yeah I would. Well I’m almost 32 and still never have, and have no desire to, so…
My brother on the other hand is turning into my dad 2.0 so I’m glad I stayed away from it.
Honestly don't start now that you're 30+, it's really hard to quit, but when you do it long enough it's like you say; you have no desire to.
I quit a year ago, I'm in my 30s, and it's so much better after quitting. (I actually love being able to drive coherently everywhere I need to go.)
Maybe it’s just me but, I’ve tried it a couple of times. Every single time, I take a max of 5 sips. I just don’t like the taste at all. Is anyone else in the same boat? I only drink because others around me are doing it, but usually it’s just coke or orange juice
Don't get me wrong I've had my fair share of alcohol, and I don't regret it, but in my 30's it's really just not worth it.
The only reason I was drinking was because it was the thing to do, and I was also self-medicating.
Speaking as a 2 years sober alcoholic, that is how it started for me. I have never liked the taste of alcohol. I started with parties and socially. My family are huge drinkers. But I'm cheap, so I wouldn't go out and party or go to bars. And when you are getting cheap alcohol you aren't caring about taste. Eventually, I was drinking at least a bottle a day of bottom shelf vodka for maintenance. Not saying it happens to everyone. But enjoying the taste is not a requirement to be an alcoholic.
I've tried on numerous occasions but I'm not into it. Even a small amount in a fun mixed drink usually tastes too strong to me. Sparkling wine sometimes tastes okay and sometimes not. I love alcohol filled chocolate and that's my limit haha.
And like some drinks sound fun but since I don't tend to like the taste and my arms start feeling heavy without any fun feelings, it's really not worth it. Plus the fact that it's unhealthy and has plenty calories I'd rather consume in something better.
I'm fully convinced people's overconsumption of alcohol is more a result of the taboo when they're young than then actually enjoying it. I come from a background where nobody drinks in my immediate family. Didn't try alcohol till I was 22 and by that point there was no bravado or pressure to impress my friends. I realised I just don't like beer (and specifically ales and lagers) so I just don't drink them. I've only found I like cider and stouts and even those I'll have one and be good for the night. Get a little buzz but that's it. That being said there's definitely cocktails and shots that are tasty but no one develops and addiction to those
I only properly tried alcohol at the very end of my teen years and was so disgusted. Like this is the stuff people in movies were downing like juice?? Still hasn’t grown on me so I rarely drink lol
I don’t even bother. Never liked alcohol but when I was young I’d have a few beers occasionally. Now even with a group, I just grab a soda.
Once I realized I only enjoyed sweet alcohol, I decided to just cut out the alcohol and eat dessert.
I wish I had stopped when it tasted bad. Now I love the taste of craft beer which takes away that deterrent.
