As in a movie that people wouldn’t generally assume would be a child’s favourite movie.
I remember being a huge fan of Ransom and Unbreakable when I was like 8 years old and talking about them at school and my friends would just talk about Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy movies or Disney films like The Lion King.
And in hindsight I do think those were kinda weird movies to like for a kid. I did like kids movies too.
I was the same way about WC Fields. (Liked the Marx Brothers, too.)
Mine was the updated version of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club band movie with the Bee Gees. I sang the songs. I loved the every thing about the movie. The story. The clothes. George Burns.

I loved Watership Down. Everyone goes on about being traumatised and whatever, but I watched it every time I could. All the religious "Frith" stuff, the Black Rabbit. Fiver and the fields of blood. It was unpatronising and real. Bright Eyes was my brother's favourite song as a kid.
A weird one was The Rocking Horse Winner. Nobody I ever knew has seen it except me. But I saw it as a kid and loved it, and again, watched it every time it came on.
I was a big fan of the Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers, Marx Brothers, Smoky and Bandit too.
But I think Rocking Horse Winner tops them for weird. :)

I watched Tombstone with my dad when I was around 8 or 9, and became fully obsessed with cowboy films. Butch cassidy, unforgiven, all the classics.
It took me a long time to get into westerns because I had the opposite experience. Whenever we’d go visit my great grandparents my grandad always had on these really tacky 1940s/50s black and white westerns on the free channels like CBS daytime and that kinda thing. I didn’t realise how cool westerns could be until I watched The Outlaw Josey Wales.
I love this movie too when I was a kid. Tombstone is definitely one of those classics that leaves a lasting impression.

She was pregnant with Baby’s sister’s boyfriend? Johnny got blamed? How did I miss all that? I truly thought it was just because her parents didn’t want her dancing lol

Neither of these movies are suitable for most children regardless. But my dad was a drug dealer who went to prison. I witnessed some of crime that happens alongside the drug world, much like the child in Road to Perdition. My relationship with my father was similar to the relationship in that movie. It was Mt favorite because it reminded me of him yet I hated it for the same reason.
Road to Perdition I think is probably the most underrated gangster movie of all time.

Terror at the Opera, a 1987 Italian Gothic horror/ gore film. I loved that movie, the cinematography was amazing. I was 6 when it came out, but I first watched it when it became weekly when I was maybe 8. I had total freedom at the local corner shop that had a huge wall of VCR.. They had their school-aged kids serving most of the time. My parents were shift workers, and I doubt they cared. I also loved a fantasy horror film called Cameron's Closet. I watched them both at least a dozen times. What's funny is that I also loved the original Disney fairytale films at that age, Cinderella and Snow White were my favourites.. That being said, fairytales are actually pretty dark, lol

A WW2 movie call "49th Parallel" about a German U-Boat crew having their sub destroyed on the Canadian coast. A handful of survivors make their way across Canada being chased by authorities. If one of them can get to the US border and into neutral (at the time) USA, it would be a huge propaganda boost for Germany. It had a nice twist at the end. I saw this on a PBS channel back in the 70's and it just stuck with me.

A movie called Split Infinity. It was a kinda obscure christian film from a company called Feature Films for Families.
It was about a modern girl (90's girl) going back in time to the period right before the Great Depression. She takes on the role of her great aunt in the past. That includes doing her great aunt's chores like milking the cow which she sucks at. The family farm is in some sort of financial trouble and her grandfather wants to sell it to some speculators but since she knows the Great Depression is right around the corner, she tries to talk him out of it so the family can weather the storm. Eventually, she creates a fundraiser to save the farm and that somehow helps the whole town through the Great Depression.
Throughout the movie, the girl is confronted with the backwards culture of the past. But instead of conforming to their culture, she brings a bit of modernism to the people around her. She refuses to wear dresses and goes to school wearing the closest thing to pants she could find in her great aunt's wardrobe. So everyone calls her crazy for wearing "underwear" to school. She proved that girls can be just as good as boys by beating the boys in a game of softball. She insisted on going by a somewhat masculine sounding abbreviation of her name. And so on...
I can't imagine a christian company making a movie like that these days. Evangelicals would call it "woke" and claim it was grooming kids to be crossdressers or something.

I watched the Marx Brothers movies well into my teens. Still watch them today. Absolutely comedy bangers. Nothing today can compare, comedy is so different today. Back then it was pure vaudeville, clever puns, tasteful slapstick, over the top stock characters, and if you're lucky Chico will play the piano or Harpo the harp. Really great stuff, we'll not see their like again.
