More than 600K Californians haven’t touched their inflation relief money
Who got money, I didn't!
Exactly, I didn't get squat either!
That's why we didn't touch it. We never had it.
I never got a penny
No pennies for me either!
I like money!
What money??????
It was over a year ago back in December 2022- I remember getting a 1099 for it (you did not have to pay tax on it). It was a credit card thing and only to certain levels of income.
Yeah… they lost my card, then sent me a letter complaining I didn’t activate it. I finally got a replacement but then there are so many fees etc that it’s hard to fully utilize. They should have just sent a check.
I just pulled the money out at an ATM and ate the fee. Wasn’t too bad
Did you put sauce on it or something
5/7 with rice
Fee? I cashed it out for no fee.
A middle man made millions providing the card and support
Yep
I’m still peeved about it
When you get the card there is a number at the bottom to get a check instead.
Ah fees. Nothing like government finding a way to use public assistance to grease the palms of corporations.
What fees are you referencing? There weren’t supposed to be any fees. The whole process of using it in the first place wasn’t very easy and I kept getting fraud alerts, but I didn’t run into any fees.
Was it that white credit card with the bear on it?
Yes. I still have mine but I’m at that point of low enough balance that I can’t even use it because the register rejects it for insufficient funds and I’ve yet to encounter a cashier who knew how to split a transaction onto separate cards.
When you have a card with a low balance, I'd recommend just buying an Amazon gift card with it through Amazon. The funds go straight to your Amazon account as credit.
My balance was drained by thieves right away on that card, I couldn’t even use it. A shame, because it had such a pretty design too.
Just like my unemployment debit card from B of A.
When you are at the register, punch in exact amount of what you have left to drain the card, otherwise it’s gonna get declined. Then use another card to pay off the rest.
Call the number on the back, put in card number and pin, listen to the options and I think the last one is to have them mail you a check. I hope this helps!
many systems don’t allow charging to multiple cards. don’t blame the cashier lmao
It’s less than 3% of adult Californians
Money? Somebody say money?? I pretty sure it’s a myth
Never saw any.
California did a terrible job.
They sent them in these ratty cards that looked like those scam cards that people get sent all the time.
Yeah I literally took mine to the closest bank and had them verify that it was a real card, lol
It doesn’t even work. I’ve tried using it at multiple grocery stores and still haven’t been able to
Did you set up the online account with the card. My mom got one and her card got rejected until we set up the online account in her name and set a PIN over the phone. She bought a new stove with the money.
Call the number on the back, put in card number and pin, listen to the options and I think the last one is to have them mail you a check. I hope this helps!
had to lookup what atm network could even pull the $ lol
Did you find it? I still haven’t been able to pull mine out.
If you call them up they will ACH you the funds from the card.
Call the number on the back, put in card number and pin, listen to the options and I think the last one is to have them mail you a check. I hope this helps!
Yeah I moved out of state and got a letter saying that I never used the card. I legit thought it was a scam. Turns out because I filed a paper part year tax return they couldn't transfer it electronically (no idea why) and never updated my address and just sent it somewhere.
Now I have this $200 card from some random bank that I have to agree to terms with and there's absurd fees to get my money out. I can get a paper check mailed in like 3 months but I'm certain it would go to my old California address.
I suspect this was done to support people without bank accounts and non-citizens... but what a crazy mess.
It was also sent from out of state (somewhere on the east coast) which was immediately a red flag.
It felt really scammy. I’ve been holding off using mine. I’m glad this thread showed up.
I didn’t get any
Me neither
It’s because someone stole everyone’s cars and made millions .. like with any other government relief fund. There’s always someone to take advantage of it and the people who actually need it are always left out.
Can… Can we still get it??
I got a letter saying I never used my card two weeks ago. I called the number and asked for a replacement. I got the replacement last week, called to set it up, went to an ATM, and withdrew $340 (had to pay a $3 ATM fee).
Well, they can send me theirs.
I never got mine
Is it a physical check or an electronic deposit?
Found it: Californians will receive their MCTR payment by direct deposit or debit card.
You can call a number and ask for a check instead when you get the card.
Wish i would have known that! Can i still get the check?
Tried to use my card, and it got declined.
I did set it up with a pin code. But, it never worked.
Same here.
This is what happened to me, I’ll probably call to see what’s up.
Same
Call the number on the back, put in card number and pin, listen to the options and I think the last one is to have them mail you a check. I hope this helps!
Same
Read the letter, do the setup, and it's free money.
My first check went into savings and is making me 6%. My second was a debit card and we ate food for two weeks, a sacrifice to the Walmart God.
You have a savings that gets you 6%??
I never received a dime
It’s been made impossible to collect. First notice I got about not cashing it was met by a disconnected phone number. Second notice that I hadn’t collected it, I gave it to my grandson and told if you know how to jump through the hoops they placed in your way, then you can have the money. Reason 600 K haven’t touched their money is the government has made it impossible to touch it!
I immediately spend all gift cards I get on an identically priced Amazon gift card. That's how these scam debit card companies make money, by keeping the excess people don't spend.
I didn't get a card or a check.
I don't think I ever got one and when I called the line for assistance they told me they sent it or whatever. I never received it. I never followed up.
Where is this money? I want to touch it.
Maybe because the card refuses to work.
I’ve tried to. I’ve gone to one of their atms and it never works. I tried using it at Amazon, Ralph’s. Nope.
I’m pretty much done with it at this point
Call the number on the back, and I think the last option after entering your card number and pin will be to receive a check for the balance on the card. Funny enough, I just did this a few days ago. They said the check will take up to 10 business days to arrive. Fingers crossed.
I'm guessing because it was spent before they even realized they received it.
I lost the card.
If they'd just issued a check I would've cashed it.
I cant use my card and cant withdraw from their ATMS either 😑
Call the number on the back, put in card number and pin, listen to the options and I think the last one is to have them mail you a check. I hope this helps!
This is what I did. They're having to resend it. They said call back in two weeks if I didn't get it and that was last week so I guess I have to call again.
Wait... there's money?
Pretty sure the film/tv workers who've been unemployed for more than a year could use some of that.
In other words that's how many were victims theft.
Err, or I just forgot about it because it’s a weird credit card sitting where I store excess mail. If it were a check I would have deposited it.
Yeah, mine was empty when I tried to use it.
Government crooks
Well no, actual victims of theft would have counted as having their card used because the money is gone and used.
If they were victims of theft, wouldn’t the thief had cashed them? If the cards haven’t been spent that means they most likely were lost, forgotten, or thrown away.
what clickbait article is this? 1.5% of Californians haven’t touched their inflation relief money?
Did you read the article? It talks about debit cards that have been sent and not activated. 10% of the debit cards mailed (625k) have not been activated, totalling $125m. That's pretty significant, even if it only averages to $200 per person.
It was an atm card drawn on the bank of New York or something. I know a lot of people who tossed them thinking it was a scam.
Give it to me I’ll show you what to do with it!
I was never able to find an ATM, website or business where the card was accepted. Eventually, I registered the card on the website and there were some steps you can take where you can request that they send you a check.
Heh
People got money.
They never sent that out!
What money?
600k is maybe about 5% of the adult population.
It's closer to 2% but the article is about debit cards that have been sent and not activated. 10% of the debit cards mailed (625k) have not been activated, totalling $125m. That's pretty significant, even if it only averages to $200 per person.
What’s the population of Wyoming again?
I forgot all about this, I still have my card.
This has to be a joke
No wonder no one knows about it. Probably have to make under a certain amount to qualify.
I never got card or money or notice of the possibility of money.
Who do i call?
I recently got a letter telling me I haven’t spent my money. I have no idea whether I ever received a card.
We can’t get our card to work and support is non existent
I didn’t get nothin 🤷♀️
I'll gladly take it
Can’t touch money that they didn’t actually give us.
Yeah I never even heard about this
I got a card, the wife spent whatever was on it.
Was that white card they said was for your kids?
McGrady qualify
What now ?
Did they give it via a tax refund? I remember being a bit surprised by how much of a state refund I got last year.
I never got mine, and I’m well within the income range.
600,000/39,000,000 comes out to 1.5% of the population. So... not very many still haven't used that money.
are they the dead people that for whatever reason got money?
I didn’t get a dime. What the hell are they talking about?
Our what
Is this that Middle Class Tax refund? They should have just deposited it into my account. The company that runs those cards is terrible. I used it once. Their portal still shows the full balance. Every time I try to use it now, it is always declined.
Weird way to find out that I am one of California's wealthiest residents. Do I have to purchase a monocle now?
Tell me more about this money I never got
What money?
how come i never new about it
What the hell is inflation relief money and where do I get mine?
So many people got away with covid money it was so poorly ran . Now it’s just a memory . With so many getting away with it . Our tax dollars given to thieves
Weird to call it inflation relief. There was a massive budget surplus because they collected more taxes than they needed. They gave people their own money back (a small portion)
The irony of fighting inflation by giving away free money
Same here
Never once touched my per diem.
Should got NetSpend and had it direct deposited
I looked up where i could use without getting hit with a fee. A cvs near me had the right atm so I withdrew the money.
I just found out it wasn't a scam. 500 bucks in my pocket.
Yeah. Cause my mom got one 2 years after she died.
I didn’t qualify for most of it, and as I understand what I did qualify for I did not receive, and that’s fine by me.
Pretty sure I never got a direct deposit like I should've 🤔
Why isn’t there a website? A phone number?? That’s the only way to check?
I just activated my card yesterday. It was sitting in my backpack for weeks. I kept forgetting about it.
About 300,000 Californian died each year, safe to say most of those cards will never be activated.
You guys got money?
