PSA: Parsec VDM can break Caldigit TS4 Ethernet

If you have a USB4 port and cannot get the Ethernet adapter to work (i.e. simply doesn't show up in Device Manager at all), and you have Parsec installed, uninstalling it may fix it. This is apparently a known issue with the VDM driver that they have yet to fix

You can tell if you have this bug if you have a Yellow Exclamation'ed "PCI Express Root Port"

More information at https://community.frame.work/t/pci-express-root-port-drivers/35684 (despite this being Framework, this can affect many different vendors)

TS4 w/ M2 & M4 - No Power & No display

What's up y'all...

I just recently got the New iPad Pro M4 11" and I had a M2 11" Prior to this.

Does anyone have issues connecting the Thunderbolt 4 cable to the iPad where it doesn't charge or doesnt even get recognized? Prior to this it use to work where the TBT4 Cable plugged into the computer port on the TS4 to the iPad use to work / Charging & Display.. Idk if something Changed but I am on the latest firmware 39.1 and I've updated the PD Firmware as well.. Let me know what you guys think.. I emailed Caldigit support but I haven't heard back yet.

Thanks in advance for any insight you all may have.

M3 Max MacBook Pro Quad Monitors

Hey guys! I just purchased an M3 Max MacBook Pro (14 inch) and I'm attempting to utilize the 4 monitors that M3 Max will allow. My understanding is that only 2 monitors can be run per thunderbolt 4 connection. The Caldigit Mini Dock has 2 HDMI outputs. Can I purchase 2 of these docks and run 4 monitors total?

Does TS3 plus support 6k 60hz Prodisplay XDR?

Looking to buy a dock for my mbp14 with m1max and prodisplay XDR. TS4 can support dual 6k 60hz, but it seems like an overkill for me, plus there is no silver finish option. TS3 plus spec sheet says that it supports single 5K 60hz, but did not mention anything about 6k. Will ts3 plus work with a single prodisplay XDR?

Using element and TS4 at same time

My job is switching over from elite books to surface laptops. This means I’m probably losing one direct USBA (have 2 USBA, 2 thunderbolts and HDMI 2.0 on elitebook- moving to 2 TB4 and 1 USBA)

In short, I’m using a TS3Plus at work- I have a 3840 x 1600 ultrawide plus 3 other screens- 4k, 2k, and HD display. I currently have a powered Saberrent USBA hub that hosts 2 plugable external video adapters to make the displays work. The powered USBA ADAPTER connects to a Caldigit TS3 PLUS. And the two higher resolution monitors connect directly to Caldigit TS3 Dock.

I use a 2.4 ghz mouse and 2.4hgz wireless keyboard, both connected directly to laptop. Have a second keyboard connected to 2.4ghz on the TS3pkus directly but it lags a little with all the throughput already connected. (It all makes sense if you saw my office setup- surprisingly less overkill than you’d think)

I have a TS4 at my home office that I probably don’t need to use there anymore and an element hub I carry in my backpack because honestly, I’m just a little obsessive….and Bc I have several multi monitor setups.

I know I can replace the 3Plus with my TS4, but can I replace the USBA Hub with the element hub for the 2 video card adapters and 2 (or even 3) of the 2.4ghz adapters? (I can’t download any firmware onto my laptop so I have to use the docks as is, and I’m worried about the connections getting confused)

Any upcoming sales for Caldigit products soon?

Looking to pick one of the hubs up (deciding between caldigit ts4 vs element) in addition to my Soho dock.

TS3+ No Audio Output

I'm trying to get audio out from the front 3.5mm jack but Windows doesn't recognize the output. It's completely missing from the audio settings and does not show up in device manager. Is there anything I can do to get it to show up? Thanks!

TS3+ 3 monitors

Hi, I'd like to know if the TS3+ can support one 4k monitor + 2 FHD. Is this somehow possible?

TS4 igc driver crashes on AMD platform

I just received the TS4 and immediately connected it to my Framework 13 (AMD 7840U). Everything seems to work fine, except the ethernet port.

The NIC shows up in lspci, but in the system logs I see that the igc driver crashes when it tries to initialise the device.

Is this a known issue? Are there any known solutions?

This is the crash that I see:

M1 max + LG 4K + LG 5K2K

2 displays: LG 34WK95U-W and LG 27UK650-W

Currently I have a Microsoft Surface TB 4 dock connected to my Macbook Pro M1 Max.
The dock is connected to displays with a TB3 cable and a USB-C to Displayport cable.

I can't get both displays to run together at native resolution 60hz.

Is this possible with the Caldigit TS4 ? Or do I need to use a second USB-C port on the macbook ?

CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub - 2 USB C LG monitors + HDMI to soundbar

Hi there,

I’m wondering if the CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Element hub will enable a 1 cable connection from a M1 Pro MBP to:

2x 4K LG USB C monitors at 60hz (27 UK850)

1x HDMI soundbar (for audio - but Mac would still send video)

My thinking is use 1 of the Thunderbolt 4 ports as a USB C > HDMI adapter to HDMI cable to the soundbar for audio

OR would I need to just have one of the monitors go via the USB C > HDMI adapter to Soundbar, back to monitor, passing through 4K @ 60hz?

Many thanks

CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock Review

I posted a request in r/macbookpro, asking for a dock recommendation and came across the CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock -- I thought I'd cross post it here to help any future internet searchers who are running into Display Link limitations.

My scenario is I have two macbook pros and a dual monitor setup but there were Display Link conflicts with both OBS and the Prusa Slicer that I couldn't find workarounds for.

The Intel one is:

16-inch 2019
2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Sonoma 14.5 (23F79)

The Apple Silicon is:

16-inch, 2023
Apple M2 Pro
32GB
Ventura 13.3

So I opted to buy the CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock which I can confirm doesn't have the display link issues w/ OBS or Prusa.

I have older monitors [FLATRON E2742] which don't have display port... ports, so originally I opted to buy the CalDigit USB-C to Display Port Adapter and a two pack of DisplayPort to HDMI Adapters (my thinking was at some point I'll want to upgrade my monitors so having a USB-C to Display Port adapter would be a bit more future proof). However, although the two DisplayPort to HDMI Adapters worked in the display ports in my old dock (it had 2x display port and 2x HDMI) they didn't produce any video from the CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock.

I'm going to return both purchases, CalDigit USB-C to Display Port Adapter and DisplayPort to HDMI Adapters, but already purchased the CalDigit DisplayPort to HDMI Active Adapter and the CalDigit USB-C to HDMI Adapter which both worked.

A thing woth noting is that my setup didn't work with the the CalDigit USB-C to HDMI Adapter connected to an HDMI cable that had an HDMI to DVI Adapter insalled, but the CalDigit DisplayPort to HDMI did work with the DVI Adapter. The CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Cable That comes with the dock is a bit short for my use, at roughly ~2', and only connected one screen with my existing 6' Thunderbolt 3 Cable so I'm considering buying the larger cable.

A $400 dock to not come with any dongles ($20 ea) and the longer cable being $65 at this time -- this was a ~$500 upgrade which -- is a bit steep to enable OBS & Prusa with multiple monitors so if you're not constrained by display link limitation I'd recommend something like the Targus USB-C Dual 4k Dock (DOCK190) which is only ~$180 today and worked with all of my computers largely without issue (except for the OBS/Prusa issues of course).

Issue with TS4 and Dell Vostro 5635

Hey, as the title says, vostro 5635 doesnt appear to detect caldigit ts4 although power delivery works and the laptop recharges. Never had this issue with my previous hp 435, both running amd ryzen, or with m1/m2. Anyone got any clue about this strange behaviour?

Dual Studio with M3 max and pro

I have another studio screen arriving and plan to output via my TS4 which works brilliantly already. Is this setup working okay with no lag etc to avoid plugging second screen into MBP? It would be with a MBP M3 Max mostly and M3 pro sometimes

Power delivery issues with USB-C Dock (old 2016 version)

I bought one of these used, hoping it would be the end-all solution to my docking needs. I've been hooking it up with a Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro 14 with Ryzen 5600U which, while not Thunderbolt 3 compatible, is very much USB-C power delivery and displayport compliant. It worked for a bit, maybe half a day or a couple of days, but eventually a little hazard sign appears over the battery icon, and then when disconnected and reconnected, it refuses to charge and reverts to battery power.

Sometimes powering the dock on and off will fix it, other times it will just refuse to power. I tried it with another laptop (HP Envy 13 Ryzen 4500U) and it wouldn't power it either, so it's not just an issue with the laptop.

I then bought a second dock thinking it was a faulty dock, but the second one displayed the exact same behaviour. I'm somewhat baffled, since it's multiple laptops and multiple docks, which rules out both a one-off faulty dock and it being an issue with the laptop. Both are running Windows 10. The only thing I could think of is, there's some kind of issue with Ryzen laptops.

Does anyone have any experience with troubleshooting this erratic power delivery behaviour?

Issue with Caldigit TS4 with duel monitor setup(LG Ultrafine 5k and 2k@144hz)

I'm experiencing some unusual behavior with my MacBook Pro M3 Max when connected to my setup. Here are my observations:

  1. When the laptop is connected to the dock with only the LG Ultrafine 5K attached (without the 2K 144Hz display), the LG Ultrafine 5K operates at its native resolution of 5120x2880(Default to 2560x1440 in the MacOS Display Setting).
  2. When the laptop is connected to the dock with both the LG Ultrafine 5K and the 2K 144Hz display (using an active DisplayPort to HDMI dongle from the back of the TS4 dock), the LG Ultrafine 5K operates at a scaled resolution (Default to 1920x1080 in the MacOS Display Setting), while the 2K 144Hz display operates at its native resolution.
  3. If the laptop is already connected to the dock with only the LG Ultrafine 5K and I then connect the 2K 144Hz display on the fly (plug and play), the 2K 144Hz display shows no signal.
  4. If the laptop is already connected to the dock with only the 2K 144Hz display and I then connect the LG Ultrafine 5K on the fly, the setup behaves as described in observation 2.
  5. When I connect the LG Ultrafine 5K directly to the laptop and the 2K 144Hz display through the TS4 dock, both displays work at their native resolutions.

Why is this happening? Thunderbolt 4 should have enough bandwidth to support 5K@60Hz and [2K@144Hz](mailto:2K@144Hz). Any insights are appreciated!

Edit: Can confirm from MacOS System Information that I am running the latest firmware (39.1).

Ethernet Not Working

I have a CalDigit USB-C pro dock and an ASUS Zephyrus M16. I have hooked two Samsung G5s to the dock which work good but the ethernet doesn't work at all nor gets detected by my laptop. Any Solutions?

Lenovo USB-C TS3 Plus

Hi, guys! I just got a new work laptop (Lenovo ideapad slim 3 15irh8) and wanted to use my ts3 plus with it. I reckon it doesn't support Thunderbolt, but is there any way to work it out with my dock? Thank you!

Can I plug more USB hubs into TS3 or TS3+?

I'm looking to properly replace my old desktop with my laptop, however I've got a few USB A Peripherals which I want to use, I have keyboard (2x USBA), mouse (1xUSBA), wireless headphone (1xUSBA) soundcard (1xUSBA), separate microphone (1xUSBA), not to mention if I want to charge something or use a memory stick or my printer.

None of the Thunderbolt docks have a huge amount of ports so can I plug my powered USB 3 hub into one of the USB A on Caldigit, since keyboard+mouse won't need a lot of bandwidth, or is this bad? Should I plug the USB hub into the laptop instead? Just trying to plan my new desk set up with minimal amount of cables attached to laptop.

My laptop is Razer 2024 with Thunderbolt 4, but I don't think I need Thunderbolt 4, I only have one WQXGA monitor and don't plan on relying on external HD.

TS4 with dual monitors and a Lenovo and Macbook laptop

I am using the Ts4 with dual monitors with a Lenovo and Macbook laptop. When using either laptop, I am plugging it in with the usb-c. I am noticing that there is a lag on the computer. Definitely noticeable when watching video, but seeing a lag when working with spreadsheets.

It is the TS4 docking station as the computers work fine with no lag when at the office that uses a Lenovo docking station and the internet speeds are very fast. Any ideas on what is causing this lag or how to improve it?

ts3 plus, no video output via DP or blue light

Hi Everyone.

Purchased a caldigit ts3 plus second hand. Had the original cords, went home to plug it in to MBP2019 into power as well as the lightning port of the MBP and when I plug the keyboard and mouse in, they work and light up, laptop is also charging, however there is no blue light.

I then purchased a DP to HDMI cord from amzaon this one here

https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CSFWB91H?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

However, the monitor just doesn't pick up the and says no signal found. I read something about different cords and not being compatible, so I purchased this would should be delivered in the next day

https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CSCTB5KQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

However, Shouldn't the blue light on the device be on anyway, is this why it's not working, or have a used the wrong cord. Essentially from what I have read the blue light should be on regardless if the DP is plugged in.

occasionally when plugging in laptop monitors are not detected

Not every time, but maybe every couple days when docking my laptop with the included thunderbolt cable the dock does its usual stuff. It lights up, everything plugged in works (speakers, mouse, keyboard, ethernet). But both monitors are not detected (1440p 144 Hz, and 1080p 144 Hz).

When I hit Win + P it's set only to "PC screen only ", and choosing extend or second screen only does turn on my secondary monitors. The only way I can fix it is by restarting the laptop, power cycling does not work for this.

Has anybody dealt with a similar issue? I don't have access to another thunderbolt cable, and purchasing another is out of my budget at the moment.

TS3+ No Audio Through Displayport / HDMI?

I'm using the official CalDigit DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter to replace a 50ft HDMI cable run.

Signal flow from PC to TV:

TB3 PC > TB3 to TB2 adapter > Corning optical TB2 cable > TB2 to TB3 adapter > TS3+ > CalDigit DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter > HDMI 2.0 cable > HDMI 2.0 TV 2k @ 120hz

The CalDigit adapter fixed the screen refresh rate and flickering that I was having with a 3rd party adapter... but there's no audio coming from the dock to my TV. The PC shows outputting audio to the TV, the TV speakers still make noise with other inputs / menu navigation... But nothing is coming out from the dock.

Anything I'm missing? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

EDIT 2: So it looks like the no audio is linked to 120hz. When I switch back to 60hz I get audio back, but it goes away completely when switching higher.

My M2 MBP never remembers the positions of all of my apps when I re-connect my computer to two displays that are connected via the TS4. How do I know if this is a macOS issue or a Cal digit TS4 issue?

The craziest part is, apparently macOS already DOES remember all the positions of your apps when you re-connect your computer to the displays — at least that's what people are saying on various forums.

There are also people on various older threads like this and this that disagree and are having the same issues as me.

I've tried virtually everything including paying for 3rd party software (like Rectangle Pro, Stay etc) but they've all failed.

So, now I'm suspecting perhaps it's got something to do with my TS4 since both of my DELL monitors are connected via that.

What do you think?

Any ideas?

Help CalDigit and Macbook M1 Pro

Hey guys I have a very annoying problem with my CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub.

It for some reason turns off itself randomly, sometimes once a day and sometimes every 5min.

I have connected to it: My two monitors and macbook by usbc.

I have also connected to it: My apollo twin, midi keyboard, a little lamp and my mechanical keyboard with usb bluetooh connection.

Im not sure why it shorten itself but I cant so much thos way.

When I run parallels to play good old mw2 on it sometimes the Hub turns itself off as well.

I think it has to do something with the energy flow or that it can not hansle that much energy intake.

What can I do and which dockstation is the best to go for?

I simply want to plugin my mac with one cable as I do right now.

Would be amazing if someone could suggest me something well and solid.

Thanks!
