ACC Commissioner statement on FSU not making the playoffs
DiscussionSays you? Are we just making stuff up now because we want it to be true? Do we really have to go back in circles with why liberty isn't in the college football playoff this year? And then you say "power 5 conference" as if the ACC and SEC schedules are even remotely comparable?
Literally the best win that FSU has all season is against the 5th best team in the SEC, not even their own conference. The second best team in the ACC lost to a Kentucky team that went 3-5 in the SEC and a Pitt team that went 3-9 overall. That was the toughest conference game that FSU played all year.
You can use your brain and realize pretty easily that a 1-loss team with a 5th ranked schedule is "similar" to a no-loss team with a 55th ranked schedule. You just want to oversimplify and reward weak schedules. FSU and Clemson reaped the benefit of playing in the weakest conference for many years where they could run the table and then claim a signature win against each other to get into the playoff. If Clemson was halfway decent this year, this wouldn't be a discussion. But that's the risk and this is the result.
you say "power 5 conference" as if the ACC and SEC schedules are even remotely comparable?
You're so delusional it's comical. The ACC was 6-4 against the almighty sec, with FSU already beating both of its opponents. The almighty GA, who was beyond reproach last week, couldn't beat lowly Georga Tech by more than 8pts. Bama didnt pass the eye test in several of their wins but we still count 'em. You can cherry pick all you want, but the ACC is legit.

You should try using your brain to realize you're using SOS which is heavily weighted on preseason rankings. If you looked at SOR, which is based on how the season actually turned out, you'd see FSU actually ranks better than Bama... and they still didn't lose. Bama proved they were beatable, and nobody proved they could actually beat FSU. End of story.
You just want to oversimplify and reward weak schedules.
I want to reward winning and actually count loses. I want the results on the field to matter more than magical what-if bullshit. I dont want wild speculation and quality losses to count more than the dedicated effort put on the field throughout a season. You want the season to be won by buying recruits and second chances. Grow up and root for the kids that put in the work and succeeded instead of the popular kids who underperformed.
When you compare records between conferences, the teams that actually played matters. The best win was the number 1 ACC against the number 5 SEC. Kentucky went 3-5 in the SEC and beat the number 2 team in the ACC. The record against argument is weak. You will find out in the bowl season.
SoS is not subjective on preseason rankings. It is literally a measure of the record of the teams you played against.
On the other hand, strength of record is extremely subjective and has a heavy bias towards top 25 teams that play easier records.
You really need to educate yourself on these nuances before trying to debate.
You're arguing ridiculous shit like flu and liberty are on the same level. Yes it matters if the best team plays the 5th best sec team, but liberty couldn't best any of them. It's not exact, but it's a proof point. Maybe the SEC is better to to bottom but they're comparable.
Second, SOR was literally invented to answer how that team would compare to another too 25 team playing that same schedule. It's literally created specifically for the situation so is in. How would other top 25 teams fare as against the same schedule. The entire point of SOR is to take out the element of playing an easy schedule. SOS gives teams a boost for playing hyped teams that turned out to be garbage.
I'd suggest looking into the dunning kruger effect.
The irony of the last sentence and the fact that you think others haven’t heard of it is hilarious. I could probably guess your age at this point.
It looks like you didn’t actually look up how SOR is determined, so stay uneducated I guess. I know why it was created. But understanding how it works and what it tells you when an undefeated team is one rank off from a one loss team is crucial. But ignorant people like to stay ignorant.
I will simplify it even better for your simple mind. Every single other team contending for a playoff spot had to play another playoff contender during the season. Bama actually played 2 and split them. FSU is the only contender to play ZERO. FSU’s schedule is about as far away from Bama’s schedule as Liberty’s is from FSU. They don’t deserve to be in over teams that played significantly more difficult opponents. Everyone knows that every playoff contender would have smoked FSU’s schedule too.
I could tell how simple minded you were when you used the ACC record against the SEC as your way of comparing the two conferences. Do you really not have the mental ability to think half a level deeper? Maybe who actually played whom matters? But you are the same type of person to just see an undefeated power 5 team and then your brain shuts down, so I’m not surprised. Let’s see how the bowl matchups play out when teams are actually pitted against like teams. It should actually favor the ACC since the SEC has a team in the playoff and everyone else has to slide.
Georgia is going to beat that ass. Go ahead and get the excuses ready.
