I finished my MA in lit studies last year and I still need to purge most of my theory books.
Why do you feel the need to remove them from your collection?
Personally I quickly developed beef with French theory — it just seemed foreign, I’m an americanist. And I liked the new criticism American lit criticism of mid-century, close readings, etc., but after a while you can just read closely on your own, I guess. My preference for primary texts increases as I age. Even Aristotle’s poetics kinda sucks. Just read the tragedies yourself!
I’m a sophomore poli sci student so I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface 😅
Interesting. What’s your fav book?
The prince was an interesting read, I would like to get an old copy of the Leviathan but I struggle with reading old English or more so I haven’t had enough experience with old English
