Seeking Advice: Better Monetization Options for My High-Traffic Blog?Question

Hello everyone!

I've been running my blog Log Homes 24 for about 6-7 months now. 3 months ago i started monetizing with Adsterra, but the earnings have been disappointing so far. Despite having 8-12k unique daily visitors, the RPM is only $2.8-3.5, which seems too low. Most of my traffic (90%) comes from the USA and Canada, mainly via my Facebook fan pages related to log cabins, old homes, and rustic living.

I tried applying to Mediavine but was rejected, and Google Adsense isn't an option since it doesn't accept publishers from my country. I also had a bad experience with Ezoic in the past; it slowed down my site and messed up the layout.

Could anyone recommend an alternative to Google Adsense or Mediavine that might work better for my situation? Also, if anyone has a moment to check out my blog and point out any possible improvements, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot!

What Stops You From Giving Up?Question

Everyone knows blogs don’t grow very quickly. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

What keeps you going even when you aren’t seeing success from it yet?

Are there bloggers who do it for the love of writing? Question

It seems that most threads are about SEO, getting traction and making money.

Are there people here who blog because you love writing?

Because writing is clear thinking and you are more creative, express yourself and organise your life when you write.

Best platform to get readers but not monetize?Question

I have experiences in my life I would love to write about to potentially help others going through similar circumstances. I'm not interested in monetizing, but I would like a platform where people who want to can find my writing. I have done some research and every platform has it's pros and cons, but I'm not really sure what platform would be best for my particular need: readers+no monetization.

Has anyone found a platform that they think would allow for this goal? Thanks so much in advance for your suggestions!

How many posts on blog launch?Question

Hello fellow bloggers!

I'm launching my new blog soon and was curious to know does it matter significantly how many posts I launch my blog with?

My goal is to launch with two posts, then post twice weekly.

I ideally want to launch with eight posts but I feel like procrastination due to perfectionism is just bogging me down.

I've read elsewhere that blogs that launch with more posts on launch tend to fare better overall and build up monthly traffic more quickly.

What has been your experience and what would you recommend?

Thanks all!

What are some milestones I should be hitting for my new blog? Tips/Info

Hey!

I launched my blog on March 1st and I'm definitely seeing a lot of traction, but I was wondering if there are specific metrics or benchmarks I should be comparing my progress to. Also, if anyone has suggestions on marketing their blog, I currently use Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. If there are other effective strategies or platforms I should consider, please let me know!

Pages not being indexed and no reason providedQuestion

Hi guys!

I'm pretty new to blogging. I started my blog in Feb 2024.

I've been getting like 1 or 2 visitors a day only, and most of that traffic has been direct or from social media and I believe I just found out the reason why.

I just connected my site to Google Search Console and can see that only one of my 16 blogposts has been indexed by google. The rest havent been indexed or even crawled from what I can see on Google Search Console, ie they arent even showing up in the 'all known pages' section in the Indexing-Pages report on GSC.

I just submitted my sitemap - does this normally solve the issue?

I'm not expecting to have a great ranking but I've been googling reasons for not getting indexed and I dont think I've fallen into any of those traps. Hoping the sitemap helps to resolve the issue, but would love to hear from someone with prior experience with this!

Is anyone using IONOS for their web hosting? Do they feel scammy to you?Meta

TL:DR; title. MODS: I checked the rules on the "ask your questions here" post, and it didn't seem like this belonged there. If I'm wrong, I can repost it to the question thread.

I did some Googling to find inexpensive web hosting, and it pointed me to IONOS. Going through that link gave me a first-year rate of $1/month. That almost felt like a bait and switch (I know it wasn't, but still...)

Just to test a theory, I went directly to the IONOS website to start a new account, and the cost was more like $4+ per month. Hmmm, that's interesting.

I went back to the first link and worked my way through the order process. Went all the way to providing contact info, and got stopped cold when I provided my address information. It kept saying there was a problem with my street address (spoiler alert, there's not...and the property is indexed in Google maps, shows up if you search for it, etc.). I got on their chat support and was told "Oh, you have to call us to get signed up."

There was zero effort to diagnose/fix the problem, no explanation of why it happened, etc. The chat agent just kept coming back to "you have to call us." I ended the chat and I haven't signed up yet. Again - it just felt scammy.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Post Formatting EfficiencyTips/Info

Hello all! I am a bit new to blogging. My current method of posting is copying the previous post and replacing the old content with the new content. This can be a bit time-consuming though. I'm wondering, is there a faster way I can just upload my writing from Microsoft Word into a "Post Format" and it will just auto fill into the format? Or even just tips on how to speed up this process in general?

Featured image/thumbnail sizeQuestion

The homepage of my website has a list of posts with a small thumbnail image on each. My theme documentation says to upload featured images at a size of 1040x438 px. There isn't an issue with featured images using this size. If I set the featured image to the recommend thumbnail size, the featured image comes out poor quality.

However, doing a Google pagespeed analysis of my homepage tells me that my images are not properly sized and are too large.

Any idea of a happy medium or how I can avoid this issue?

using AI to write content?Question

how can I leverage AI and use it to make a high quality content, From various experiment i learned that AI is not good for in-depth information filled content writing which really bad especially after the core update so I want to know how can i use AI to write more information filled Blog. may be some suggestion if someone have crack the code or something

I'm in a need of a community opinion.Question

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of launching a new blog that is looking at topics like mental health, self-improvement, philosophy, politics, and societal issues. Generally targeting everyday topics that people run into.

I did not tell anyone about this project, and I have a question for the community.

Credibility:

My knowledge and understanding of the topics above come only from my life experience, and the way that I am observing the world around me.
A bit about me (ik this is really poor, but cant describe my whole life in few sentences):
I am only 20 yo, but I went through a fck ton(started: drinking(13yo), weed(14yo), smoking(15yo), done speed(14yo)...)
Was raised in poverty, suffered through depression, anxiety, rejection. You know just a typical GenZ kid.

I got out of all the things above(Just to mention that while I was doing drugs and clubbing I was still smashing school.), I study mechanical engineering, and also really into programming and writing.
Now I still do have friends who did not managed get out of mental-health issues and drug abuse, and I have been there to help them a bit to go outside and to think differently. So I thought why dont I share it with everyone else, to help people think for themselves and to maybe look at things from a different perspective.
I can write and talk about philosophy and politics because of my ability to see flaws in societies interpretation of the given philosophical or political subject.

Now my question:
Do you think that people will recognize my story as credible for me to write articles on these topics from a society angle. And do you think that my real life experience can be enough to talk about these serious subjects.
Gen Z is the generation of mental illness, and that is really sad to think about, so maybe if there is a place where you can hear from someone who went through all of that and got out. Maybe there is a chance that someone will heal, and fell better.

If you think that what I'm doing is good, bad, not moral, not professional, or anything, please let me know

Sadly taking down a long, old blog: Any way to "save" a few posts for a short, new website?Question

I'm close to taking down an old food blog that I don't really maintain. It's more of an historical record at this point.
But wanting to create a new, simple website about me as a writer (photo, bio, links to a few articles published elsewhere), is there any way to "copy" a handful of the old posts (not published elsewhere) to "show" at the new site without "re-entering" them? For example, some sort of Wayback thing?
I'm sad at losing my old site (due to expenses) and feel overwhelmed trying to figure out options. Thanks for any suggestions!

Currently purchasing a blog Question

I am currently purchasing a blog from Flippa and the site is doing pretty well. We are in the process of transferring over assets and have reached the last part: AdSense approval. The current owner already has AdSense approval and is partnered with a small ad network called Advergic. I applied a couple days ago and it's still not ready. In my search for another ad network, I even got acceptance into Mediavine. This approval is slowing everything down, though. What is everyone's experience in this?

Ads.txt was not found - Feeling Victimized As A Squarespace User Question

I got approved for Google Ads and started making some money, but then it told me "Ads.txt was not found" I tried following this protocol where I attach a file as a link to a text on a page "not linked" as described on this website. If anyone has any input, I'd greatly appreciate it. Let me know if there are any alternatives to Google Adsense, too!

Help please - major blocker for starting my own sports blog - pricey images Question

I am preparing to launch a sports blog. One of the most engaging elements is writing reactions with images during or immediately after a football game. All of the existing competition does it (usually large websites with 20, 50 or more journalists) and most of them seem to be using Getti images. Then they are posted on the website and all social media channels.

Issue number 1 - images are far far far too expensive for a 1 person starting a blog

  • Getti images - 150 usd per image (if you buy a package of 10)
  • Shuttershock - 90usd per image (pack of 25)
  • Imago - 29 or 99 usd per image

Issue number 2 - every website defines their own license terminology

From "Rights managed", "Royalty free classic", "Royalty free premium" to "Editorial only", "Standard", "Royalty free" etc....and they can be used in Editorial or Commercial... Is blog commercial? or editorial?

Has anyone got any advice how to launch the blog? It would take at least 6 months (at best) before seeing enough traction and that would mean 000s of dollars burned... huge risk!

How much are you focusing on SEO currently?Question

With the new Google updates seemingly killing traffic via SEO for most blogs, do you think it even makes sense to pay so much attention to SEO and keywords in a blog post anymore?

Or better to just write entirely in your own voice without worrying about all that and get your articles out there via social media as much as possible?

170K Instagram Follower - Should I create a Blog? I'm desperate.Question

Hi there!

First of all, I would like to thank you in advance for your advice. Here's my "problem":

Since 2018, I've been running an Instagram account based around German premium cars. From the beginning, I struggled with the identity of the page. Sometimes I would just post random things that I thought might go viral, and then I would switch back and just post news (around German cars) - a lot of identity "crisis" and switching around. Long story short, I now have just under 170K followers with a solid fan base. They're not the most active ever, but it's not dead either. Some posts get thousand likes, some get even 100K (viral ones). I'd say in average I get around 2-5K likes. But: Since I am not posting original content, getting placements has obviously been really hard. I'm not really making any money, but that's okay since it's my hobby. BUT it would be a nice side effect.

During that time when I was switching a lot between content, I noticed that most of my followers were mostly into news. The likes weren't as high as on other content, but the interaction and comments skyrocketed. Therefore, I thought about making a YouTube channel where I would review cars and stuff like that. But I kind of realized that running a YouTube channel wasn't really for me (talking, showing your face etc.). And that was when I thought about opening a news blog kind of site where all my followers could gather and basically discuss with each other, show their new cars, read my posts, ask questions and so on. Something like a mix between a forum and a blog if thats makes sense? So here I am on reddit asking you guys for your opinions, tips, and so on. Do you think this would make sense or not?

I would really like to make a business out of my Instagram page but I'm literally going crazy about not knowing how to do it. I don't care if it takes me 1 month or 5 years. I've been running this page for around 6 years now. And since I already have quite a few followers, I thought it might be something to consider. What do you guys think? Does it make sense or should I rather go after a YouTube channel and just overcome my "fears" of talking and standing in front of a camera? Or something else I'm not considering?

PS: Please no comments like "do whatever you feel like is right for you". I know you mean well, but that doesn't really help me either.

Thanks a lot!
