First time smithing! Needs to be straightened out, but I feel like I've already learned a lot!
An ugly hook is a useable artifact. A perfectly formed pattern welded knife is likely a decorative item, destined to spend its existence in a drawer. You have chosen well, grasshopper.
I'll try my hand at knife making someday, but I need hooks for my garage, and now i have the tools to make my own. I need handles for the cabinets in the kitchen, and now I can make my own. (Once I get good at it, that is).
There's something powerful about that, which I can't quite put into words. To be able to make something functional that you can use every day is a unique feeling. How many people do you know that have hand crafted handles for their kitchen, ya know?
I have about thirty hooks on the wall in the garage, including some original creations that extend a 12 inches up from the mounting board then curve down and hook Up, and a u-shaped shovel hanger, as well as plant hooks, gardening tools, and ess hooks for belts and hats. Working on sole gate latches. You are right, it’s magical.
I'm gonna need to figure out how to make u-hooks next! That would be very helpful. That's next weekends project, or the extension cord bracket I'm brainstorming. Or both. I have a 3 day weekend after all, so might as well use it!
