Hey I just wanted to know people experiences who work part Time and go to school at Baruch as a full time student. Plz let me know how it is imma be a junior in 2024 fall. Was it academically hard, was it completely fine. Also how many days you worked and how many days you were in school. LMK !!!
As long you aren't taking 6 classes you should be good. Did 6 with a part time Job and I was dying barely any sleep and 3 coffees a day
definitely manageable if you plan your time correctly. i got my first part time job this semester and it has definitely been a learning experience. i work 4 days and i went to school in person 2 days. tip 1: always leave 1 day in the week for yourself to breathe and rest.
Everyone is different and handles things differently. For me, it was manageable. I am a full time student and worked full time at a pharmacy for the first 3 years of college. Luckily I was able to get all my classes in 2 days and I worked 4 days (10 hours shift). I only had one day off. But my senior year I started doing internships. I am not advising you to do what I did but if you are able to take all your classes in 2/3 days and work part time, I think it'll be manageable.
My tip: be realistic and find a job that is flexible. It’s very possible
I worked part time while taking 5 classes every semester, hit me up if you need any suggestions.
I work full time and take 2 classes a semester
For me, personally it wasn’t the easiest thing based on working part time for the last year. However, for context I took 4 classes every semester for the past year (this semester I came in 3days and 1 day was virtual), worked around 10hrs/week (2-3 days a week), but also had a position in a club (some Tuesday and Thursday events and a good amount of other tasks). You may also need to consider if you want to devote some time to networking and figure out if that would be manageable for you considering your schedule.
So, I would recommend that if you decide to work part time make sure not to have any really time consuming club positions because I think that just made it pretty hard to handle. Although, 4 classes and working part time is definitely doable, just gotta strictly manage your time.
Don't do that. Unless you don't want a better grade. Working part-time means you won't have enough for study. You might have to rush your assignment, too. You can just work during the summer. That's my suggestion.
Thought I agree that working lessens the time for your studies, I’ve known many people keeping 3.8+ gpas in Baruch while working PT jobs/even FT. It depends on your work-ethic and prioritizations. Obviously school should be prioritized more, and the boss should work around it!!
I actually asked something like this in my first year. I would say it was academically hard (took 5 classes), attended class 4 days and worked Fri-Sunday.
It’s good that you are doing it throughout the middle. I started in freshman year and oh boy, was it a challenge adjusting into school and all.
You just have to be careful at prioritizing. I’ve laid out some pros and cons I’ve faced working part-time (25 hours a week) and attending class full-time.
Pros: - You become great at time management - The money helps a lot - Prepares you for real life - During interviews you can emphasize how you’re great at multi-tasking due to balancing PT job and school
Cons: - Sleep becomes hard to get - Time you have for assignments decrease (hence, prioritization!!) - Less time for hanging out/recreations
These are just my personal experiences. I’ve known people to have gpas 3.8+. I recommend keeping the part time job to the weekends if it’s retail or food service cause it helps create a distinction between academics and part-time job.
Let me know if you have any questions!!
working part time while taking 6 classes this year (junior) wasn’t too hard just gotta make use of the days ur in campus. (I was in campus 2 days out of the week)
If u set ur schedule right its feasible. I've worked part time over the weekends and if ur schedule allows for it weekdays too. Depending on your job if you're self employed u can work when days are off. Or talk to your part time job and work out an agreement where u can come in during days off from school. It's very doable and as long as you're disciplined u can make it work.
Just don't let the short term money come in the way of education.
it’s hard if you go to school everyday, This semester I managed 6 classes all of them met two days a week and worked part time all 3 other days
Full time work full time student loan
New masters student.
Full time work and gonna do 1 to 2 classes per semester for a year.
Then full time student by next fall to wrap things up.
🙏
This really depends on you and how you want your semester to go! I work full time, 5 days a week and take at least 4 classes if not more every semester. I am tired but I do get my work done on the weekends or when I have down time at work. I’m not recommending this kind of schedule, but it is doable. I don’t have straight A’s but I still do pretty well given everything going on. No social life but weekends are enough, at least for me.. hope that’s is somewhat helpful
Worked full time this semester. Took a morning class over the winter and four 3-credit plus a 1.5 credit for the main part of the semester. Figured out a banger of a schedule so that I work 3 - 11 PM M-F. Only three finals, two of which are online. Did fine in classes because they're pretty much all still introductory or unrelated to my major (2nd sem sophomore).
Quitting now because looking back it would've been more beneficial for me to self study and earn certifications (CIS major). I want to enjoy my summer and get back some things i had to cut out.
I work 40 hours a week and I’m also a full time student. It’s stressful but manageable if done right. Good luck!
I work full time it’s manageable take one in person class a semester and the rest online I go to school full time as well
I would say 50% of students here work part time. Very manageable as you can make your own schedule.
