I have been barefooting” abt 5yrs. I like to run with my merrel shoes. Couple days ago I ran 7K/km and in the evening 14k walk. Still have pain on the side of the foot. I typically run 5-10K/km. Maybe need something with little cushion on the bottom for those +2hr walks or more exercise?

If it's mostly behind the ankle and at the 5th metatarsal insertion then most probably peroneal tendonitis. If it's mostly along 5th metatarsal bone I would consider an x-ray to rule out any stress fracture.
From my experience, the fastest way to recover from it was to do feet movement exercises in all directions with resistance bands. In 3 days it went from not being able to walk due to pain to running pain-free again.
Could you share what kind of feet movement exercises?
I highly recommend this website https://recoverathletics.com/how-to-fix-peroneal-tendonitis/
There is also a lot more of valuable info there regarding other running -related injuries :)
Thanks!!
