Hey guys in northern Ontario you can stop and fill bottles up with water running down from streams, is there anything like that along the ice field parkway ?
Yeppers. Beaver fever is Giardiasis : It is a common illness that causes diarrhea (loose stool/poop). The most common way people get sick with giardiasis is by swallowing contaminated water. You can also get cryptosporidium: It is caused by a parasite. Most people get the parasite after swallowing food or water tainted with stool. This includes swallowing water while swimming. Diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and weight loss are the most common symptoms.
I regularly backcountry camp and wouldn’t ever drink unfiltered water from a stream in the mountains of Alberta.
