I love cheeseburgers. I still love them in my head, but now when I bite into them I gag and can’t do it. Last time I had a switch this fast was when I became allergic to shellfish after an injection in my back. (Yes, it’s a rare side effect of the type of injection)
A counter to is their a food you never get sick of… is there a food you used to love that you can’t eat anymore?
I try to retry foods every 5-10 years. I have found I can flip back and forth. Sometimes it's just because my taste flips but often times it's because I hadn't encountered a person/recipe that does it right for me.
I only like really green bananas. Banana bread is okay. However even a small bit of banana in a smoothie ruins the entire smoothie.
I gorged on avocados in the late 90s and then could barely look at them. It was so strange. Now they fine again, but I don’t love them like I once did.
Canned pineapple. I loved it as a kid, but one day I either ate too much or got food poisoning from it. So now I can’t stand it, even 20 years later.
Same thing with coffee creamer. I got sick after drinking creamed coffee and now I can only drink it black.
Solid food. I'm full after 3-5 bites of food. Then I get intense stomach pains. So I stick to protein shakes and Ensure. Yes I've seen a Dr. I was accused of having an eating disorder (which I was honest and said I had a history of anorexia but this wasn't that. I still have some disordered eating but work with a therapist to keep in in check), or "doing something" to cause the violent stomach cramps and abdominal spasms the Drs can see with their own eyes, or best of all faking the whole thing. Yeah I gave up trying to get medical help
You need to see another doctor!! That’s crazy they won’t take it seriously, don’t give up and try to go to a gastroenterologist instead of a GP if you haven’t already
My first thought is it sounds like gastropareisis (which can sometimes be a complication of eating disorders, although it’s rare that it would start after already recovering). Where is the pain located? Could be something to bring up with your doctor, get a gastric emptying scan or something. As counterintuitive as it sounds, try eating more frequently but only as much as you can tolerate each time. Reduce your fibre and fat intake temporarily, add nutritious liquids (like the protein shakes and ensure, keep drinking those). My doctor thinks this could be what’s going on with me, except in my case it would be from intra-abdominal adhesions
Gastroperisis. Please get checked for this. Then add some ancient nutrient collagen powder and super greens powder to your ensure. I am currently on ensure + those two+ frozen fruit and a scoop of Greek yogurt in a blender (when I can afford to) the ensure is $$$ and so is the powder and fruit but it helped stop my hair falling out and the mail nutrition from not eating. I have tumors on my gallbladder and pancreas and gastroperisis is worse than both of those so far. I only drink 1/2 of an ensure in the morning and half at night and at 120 calories for the whole expensive bottle (high protein low sugar bc pancreas) so I’m not getting enough nutrition but it’s better than nothing and all I can afford.
My entire body shut down because of gastroperisis, and it took only about a year of fighting food to completely destroy me. Now I’m at the point of life where I am budgeting ensures and worrying bc I know I’m out in a day or two and can’t afford that shit or really much of anything.
Start trying to add nutrition now, so you don’t destroy your body. Sometimes doctors don’t do the work so we have to Figure it out. I don’t want you to destroy your body and you won’t notice until it’s too late.
It could also be as simple as your gallbladder rejecting any food that has any sort of fat in it because it needs to be removed. They could be gallbladder attacks which cause those symptoms as well- mine do.
If you've had your gall bladder out already and gotten back to being able to tolerate greasy food most of the time in moderation like I have, you can still have attacks that require a liquid diet for a few days to a week to resolve.
Mines not out, there’s a tumor wrapped around it and I lost my insurance right after I found all this out but I have been very jealous of those who were able to get theirs out. Now not so much.
Yeah... It's too bad we aren't taught much about what the gall bladder is/does and what can affect it in school and most of the time gall stone/bladder issues aren't diagnosed until it's too late and they need to yank it out.
Colonoscopy? A co-worker couldn't eat almost anything, would throw up, feel nauseous. Turned out they had a couple polyps blocking their exit and were, well, literally full of shit.
i out wheat bixed myself
I had to give up all carbonated beverages because it was causing too much stomach distress. I would have nightly bouts of belching and dry heaves until I quit drinking carbonated water and diet Pepsi. I sure miss diet Pepsi.
I used to love shit on a shingle (hamburger gravy on toast, it was popular with WW2 GIs and as a poverty dish afterwards), then my dad made it everyday for two weeks straight.
I absolutely loved pizza my whole life. Last year while I was pregnant I could not stomach it at all, and I still just do not want to eat it
Oh no :( I'm sorry it didn't flip back for you. When I was pregnant I was super sensitive to garlic but we put that heavily into pretty much everything we ate... so I had to change my whole diet during the whole pregnancy. But as soon as I gave birth I was right back to loving it. (And luckily both my kids are also on board.)
Same with lasagna
Bananas. Used to eat them all the time as a kid, now I can’t stand even the smell of them, even on the breath of other people. I hate the taste, texture, flavor ughhh my stomach turns just thinking about it.
So gross. Didn't help with the banana flavoured antibiotica as a kid.
Recently I no longer want cake. It’s just so heavy. It seems like it’s half oil and the other half butter. Instead I take a piece of bread and put honey on it and that’s my “cake”.
I used to love Diet Coke. After my spinal surgery in 2017, I can’t stand the taste.
My body is intolerant to eggs, dairy, and gluten. I feel as though my body hates me.
Coffee. It is the greatest legal drug that I cannot drink anymore. Funny enough it may have contributed to my health issues
Chocolate cover mints; I adored them, but then overtime every time I had some I started to get a headache and have since weaned off them
Meat. I gag every time I have to prepare my cats food. They can’t go veggie so I just have to hold my breath.
Frosted animal crackers. The pink and white ones. When I was 8, I devoured a whole bag of them watching a Waltons Christmas special. I puked. I can’t even LOOK at them now. At that was MANY years ago!!!
Bananas. For years, I used to eat one with breakfast, now I can’t even stomach the idea.
Mushroom ravioli. I ate it everyday for like a year and now I can’t even think about it without feeling sick
I used to love kale and would eat it with most of my meals, hot or cold, but can’t even look at it anymore without feeling queasy.
Instant ramen—once my go-to for late-night study sessions, now banished from my taste buds' kingdom after a rebellion against its sodium-packed tyranny!
Mushrooms. All of a siludden, the smell disgusted me. It's too bad, since many of my favorite recipes had mushrooms. Oyster mushrooms are ok.
Spices. Most spices taste too strong to me. Ruined a pot of soup by adding basil (??????). Chili powder is too hot (?????). My diet has become really limited.
Peaches. I love every other stone fruit, but can't stand them for some reason. I used to love them.
Croutons. Sweet sweet croutons. Specifically garlic cheddar ones. I can’t eat gluten anymore🥴 I enjoy salads without them. But I used to eat them by themselves🤣
Frozen chicken kiev. Used to be top quality mrat and garlicky filling. now over priced, tiny, and lack luster, to say the least.
They are just an oily mess now! Cannot stomach them, I was very upset with my last.
Yes!!
Banana bread. Someone made some with black bananas that had started to ferment and the texture was a war crime.
Kielbasa. Used to love it cold or cooked. Now i can't even stand the smell of it.
Banana chips. I ate too many and ruined them for myself. I tend to that a lot actually lol.
Sugar sweetened cereal. Ate it as a kid, then didn’t eat it for decades. I try to eat it now and I start gagging.
I used to love sesame anything - rolls and buns speckled with them, Joya sesame toffee candy, sesame crackers, sesame sticks, sesame cookies. You get the idea. I'm allergic to them now. Several popular bread brands add ground sesame for an unami boost.
Tapioca - pudding, etc. I'm now so allergic I have to repeatedly scan labels to make sure nothing has it (or that they haven't recently changed the ingredients - I've been caught out by that, too. It's in shredded cheese, sauces, dressings, coatings, breads, cakes, pies, etc.
my dad used to make this really good sweet & sour cashew chicken....one day he gave us all food poisoning...we haven't had it in 10+years 😂
My dad got salmonella like 20 years ago and won't eat chicken anymore. It scarred him for life.
Black Olives. I used to eat them off my fingers. Not sure why they became revolting to me.
Monster Assault Energy Drink. They changed the formula to include an amount of non-nutritive sweetener that I can detect and that tastes nasty to me.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I loved them in the 90s. Ate them everyday. Still want them but I’ll get about half way through eating one and just can’t keep eating. Have to put it down. It’s not nasty or anything just I’m done with it
Seafood of any kind. Developed Fpies after eating sashimi during a treatment cycle meant to shut down part of my immune system that was being problematic. Didn't know a raw protein like that could provoke an allergy type reaction in my body when I exposed myself to it during the cycle.
Now even the little seasoning packets that come with ramen is suspect and I have to read them carefully. Otherwise I'll spend the night with what acts like severe food poisoning until my entire digestive system is cleared of it.
Sucks
Powdered milk. I used to love it as a kid, even more than normal milk, which says a lot because I loved normal milk too. My favorite part was the small chunks of powder that didn't quite get mixed in.
Then one day I got the bright idea to eat a spoonful of dry milk powder. Couldn't ever drink it again.
Fried chicken. If you throw it up within an hour or two of eating it, it's sharp. Which means now you have blood in your vomit, which itself is acidic, so you get to feel that all up and down your throat.
Fast food. I can't do it now. It doesn't appeal to me anymore. I haven't eaten it in at least ten years, maybe 15. Sometimes, I think about eating a Big Mac, but I don't do it.
We never had fast food growing up because we couldn't afford it. When I had my own money as a young adult, I thought it was the best. My taste buds have changed since my youth.
I liked s’mores a lot as a kid. But my tolerance for extremely sweet things has faded with age. The last time I tried to eat one, it just wouldn’t go down.
I ate a turkey sandwich with nothing every day for lunch for months as a kid. Now I'm just getting back to enjoying turkey sandwiches without getting sick of it a few bites in. And it has to have mayo, lettuce, tomato, at least.
I used to love Chef Boyardee, especially the ravioli, but I didn't eat it for years and think it tastes like blood now.
Ramen
Twinkies
Never get sick of: Salmon sashimi, for about three years I make it / eat if for about 4-5 of my meals per week.
Used to love: ,McDonald's double QP, attempted one after a long hiatus a few years ago, almost puked, I now gag anytime I smell that " McDonald's aroma" like if someone brings it in at work and I smell it , I need to leave the room. I'll smash me some taco bell or Wendy's though
As a kid, I was quite partial to peanut butter and Miracle Whip sandwiches. My sense of taste as improved since then and I no longer crave them.
I used to love ground beef but now I can't stand the texture.
I loved it too. My daughter hates the taste of beef so we substitute every ground beef recipe with ground turkey or venison. Occasionally, when she wasn't home for dinner, I'd make something with ground beef but it makes me gag now. It's just so greasy and uncomfortably rich.
Anything with cumin or oregano. Pregnancy made me puke if I smelled those, and it never went away. No Italian or Mexican cuisine for me...
Red meat kills my stomach nowadays. I don't miss most things, but I really miss good brisket.
Most tomato products. Between OAB and pregnancy heartburn I can't really eat much of them without getting sick.
Ham. Got really sick back in January and that’s what I ate beforehand. Cannot even think about without being grossed out now.
Casey's Pizza. i worked at one for a year, a decade later i can tolerate a few slices.
Anything with high levels of sodium, but particularly ramen
After my parents had heart surgery and my doctor told me to lower my sodium to 1500 mg per day, it started to taste like poison to me
So I can’t stand salty soup or salted water
Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. I dont even know if they still exist, but I f'd up and told mom I loved them, so that was my breakfast for about 5 years when I was growing up.
- there*
I used to love animal products and technically I still like the taste of meat but once I realized it's wrong to eat those things, I cannot see them as food. Especially reproductive waste from birds.
Sort of reverse. I couldnt stand banana bread. Would gag. Then something flipped and I love it.
Used to love avocados. Now I can't. The smell. Taste texture. After my second kid I can't do it. Guacamole is fine tho 👌
