Fiaca is Lunfardo (Argentinian dialect) but doesn't have a real English translation. It's the pleasant feeling of not wanting to do anything in particular. It's often translated in English as "lazy" or "laziness," but it has none of the negative connotations.
I want everyone who comes to my coffee shop to feel relaxed and just want to spend some time with a friend, a book, and some coffee.
Saw a place preparing to open several years back. They hadn't finished putting up their sign so it just said "NO." I think Cafe NO would be a good name. It's much better than what they actually used.
To enhance local color we'd reach out to local high school, colleges and local hobbyists for random writings that they could display (could be poetry, short stories, heartfelt anecdotes, comic rants etc)
I'd then randomly display selected writings underneath clear table top coverings and rotate them weekly so patrons always have a chance to discover new creative gems with every visit.
I'd also have plain cardboard heat covers handed out to local art classes and let kids and even customers decorate them with whatever designs they wanted so each cup of coffee will be aesthetically unique.
I also wanted to shop garage sales to purchase unique cups plates etc. for in-house servings. I always thought it would be fun ordering a coffee and a sandwich and having them served in a Frankenstein mug and a Jimmy Carter Presidential commemorative plate.
I would call it "Coffee Regular," and all we would serve is "Coffee Regular." Two creams and two sugars. You can order your coffee black, and spruce it up the way you like. But it's either "Black" or "Coffee Regular."
