Many airlines would go out of business overnight, also cabs, Uber, passenger trains. Catastrophic for the economy.
Not overnight. If the teleportation needs infrastructure to be build it would be a longer process.
Depends on the price, health implications, environmental impact etc.
Is teleporting vegan? Who knows…
Super big boost in economic activity. We'd generate orders of magnitude more wealth.
Of course, only if the transportation is cheap enough to use.
If one large country figured out teleportation while no one else did, this country would be the undisputed ruler of the entire world within a decade.
BIG BOOM
I think there would have to be designated Teleportation Ports for safety.
Otherwise, you might teleport just in time to get hit by a bus, fall in a manhole, or splice with someone you teleported into.
Also, imagine how CRIME could be affected if they had access to this. Could just teleport into any home or bank vault.
The most horrifying scenario would be if a non-Western country invented it first. Like imagine Russia, North Korea, or Iran announces that they've invented teleportation. In my mind, we might have to immediately declare war in that scenario before they learn to conquer the world with it.
Yeah, whole transportation business is f´d I think. Planes, ships, rails, cars.
I go broke before I reach the other side!
I have actually teleported, not even joking....I was walking down the trail and ended up on a totaly other side of the city
That could well've been a mental blackout. I get them 3 to 49 times a week.
Whew it was amazing, i was wide awake
Rewatching the Venture Bros (great show, long-time fan, you should watch it) and in the episode where Rusty manages to create working teleportation, the OSI (basically, super secret spy agency) take it from him because it'd kill things like FedEx.
So, my question: what are the economic implications if teleportation were to exist?
Scenario A: teleportation only works on organics. Humans can travel from Point A to Point B. Limited to humans without non-organic skeletal replacements, pacemakers, etc.
Scenario B: teleportation works like in all classic SciFi; moves any matter from Point A to Point B.
