18 million for Art Deco Townhouse in Manhattan
ArchitectureThe article is wrong about this being the only Art Deco townhouse. There's another in the Upper East Side designed by Boak and Paris and built in 1934, I'll share it when I find it. It is more explicitly Art Deco too, this one looks Neoclassic.
Some of the decor in this one looks more Art Nouveau than deco.
Yeah, the dining room furniture is incongruous and the kitchen is ridiculous.
That was the first thing I noticed. I even googled to see more pictures of it. Outside looks Nouvaeu as well, with natural and organic patterns instead of geometric. According to another article, she sold off a huge collection of Art Deco and Art Nouveau art and decor in 1993. The old article acknowledges both styles, and the old apartment looks like an earlier iteration of this one, especially the kitchen.
Pretty cool little house
It’s actually 9000 square feet.
The exterior is pretty plain
Okey, it is Manhattan and it is a house but this price is ridiculous, it is not even that great of a house (design/interior wise).
if it was in Tokyo .....
Spoiler: there is almost nothing art deco inside this link
note says LISTS FOR not SOLD FOR
but then :LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
and 9000sqft and 8 bedrooms
I think the location (and celebrity association) are doing at least as much to account for the price point as the interior decor is.
