Found in northern Utah at high elevation alpine mountains
I would say a canine. And probably a dog. There is faint evidence for blunt claws. It takes time to notice the claws, but they are there. I know that felines can extract their claws, but usually, they are not blunt like the ones here. Also, in canines, the top two toes are set symmetrically. In felines, there is a leading toe. The overall weight of the pad in comparison to the toes: in feline, the pad is much more prominent, and the movement of the animal is weighted on the pad. In canine, the toes are more prominent and are roughly half of the overall weight of the print. The movement of the animal is weighted on the toes. I hope this makes sense 🤗👍 Where was this photographed? Is that on a path with lots of dogs? Any other arguments supporting a feline are welcome 😉
Great observation on it being dull, I will definitely be using that as a guide for domestic vs. coyote/wolf
Mountain Lion.
