My guest is asking to reschedule their check in one day prior to their arrival (they’re supposed to come tomorrow). They are new to Airbnb and I’d be their first host, I am torn from being understanding and keeping emotions out of it because it’s business. Someone from early on told me I couldn’t see it from an emotional perspective, anyways I am a newer host, less than half a year so I’m unsure what to do. If I allow them to reschedule which would be on my end, would it allow them to cancel their new dates? I have a firm policy. It’s only one night I wouldn’t lose much but I would not be able to recover that loss no more so that would be the issue. if I give them a reschedule, Is that a risk I have to take as a host? What rules do you follow for your listing? Especially in a situation like this.
my guest wants to reschedule day before check in. What rules do you follow for your listing? [USA]
QuestionIf you have a firm policy then they can't cancel the later dates. We have a moderate 5 day cancellation and sometimes people want to cancel last minute but don't want to pay so they request a change to some date in the future and then cancel. We caught on to that pretty quick. But your issue is whether or not you think the dates will rebook. If not then you'll need to decide if you want to accept the new dates. If you do the guest will likely be very happy and probably leave a good review after their stay and that's a good thing. But you'll probably have unbooked nights which costs you money. So which is more important to you?
What I often say to guests in this situation is I explain that we don't allow last minute rescheduling but if they want to cancel and book the new dates I will refund any nights that do happen to get booked by another guest, I don't need to get paid twice.

Brilliant. i had this exact thing happen recently and I just didn't respond to the request. So, of course, I get the retaliatory rating 🙄🙄probably would have gotten it anyways though. Renters are just so damn entitled now.
