Is it me or does this seem like an awful lot of press lately compared to what would be considered normal? I guess I'm specifically referring to all the press Oliver has been doing. Is this normal after such a big character development?
ABC is no dummy and they are getting free advertisement with each interview Oliver and the other actors have been doing. I think ABC has done a phenomenal job of insuring viewers and keeping people hyped.
They have been doing an amazing job! I'm loving all this content!
well, the free part isn't always the case. sometimes this is paid media. but yes to all of the rest.
They definitely have to keep the fandom active during the hiatus, this kind of press is the best way to have most people speculate
It's fairly normal after a major moment for a character to send actors out to do press.
Ok thanks
yes, but this is pretty abnormal for just a revelation that a character is queer, i don't think i've seen something like this any time recently for another show.
It's also pretty abnormal for a character that's been presumed straight for six seasons to come out as queer. They knew this would generate buzz. They'd be foolish not to take advantage of the publicity opportunity.
ABC is most definitely taking advantage of the “shipping” aspect of the 911 fandom, it’s working brilliantly..
i have to assume it was the network move, abc needs to put a bit more into the marketing at least at first.
These last 3ish weeks have been crazy with the amount of press he's done though!
And we are basically only 1/2 way through the break...what in the world is coming out next!
Although I would assume we should get at least a little something about Maddy and Chim seeing as it's their wedding next 👀
But I also understand that just about anything from Oliver at the moment is going to bring lots of views and discussions.
I know we have at least a podcast and one more article to be published featuring Oliver.
Agreed. Maybe we will get more press about the wedding after it airs?
ABC knows that we love bi Buck and they're riding the heck out of that PR train
Honestly, a character coming out at bi after 7 seasons, and it mostly happening due to fans pushing for the storyline, (because lbr without Buddie fans starting the convo, it’s a lot less likely to have been conceived of as a story arc for Buck) is not really a scenario common enough for there to BE a ‘normal’ to judge by.
They know it’s getting them good press, and a lot of people talking about it, so they’re riding the hype train and encouraging that as much as possible.
That makes sense.
I think Oliver accepted every interview invite he got
You're probably right. He is so proud of Buck's story.
3 weeks is a long time giving how excited and anxious fans are right now so the cast doing interviews help to relieve the pressure, maintain excitement, and foster new viewers. People are starting and rewatching 911 more than ever so ABC is smart to capitalize while the season is on a break.
