Shook Ones is 100% one of the best rap songs of all time. I've caught myself listening to it for hours and just chilling out, playing video games, smoke, etc. whatever.
Yea easily. Havoc and Prodigy just popped off with this one. This album deserves it's praises. Havoc's atmospheric production combined with Prodigy's story telling lyrics and his delivery makes it one of the best not in just hip hop but in music overall. This album was the biggest upgrade from their previous album juvenile hell. 10/10 endlessly replayable just a masterwork of an album. It's the perfect mix of dark music combined with introspective lyrics diving in how the enviornment they were raised and how it effects them
That whole album ….. really gives off the most accurate nyc vibes ever. I could rock that whole album on a rainy Saturday like today. The gritty gloomy nyc vibes is so on point
To be honest, I don't have it on my top 10, survival of the fittest is the song with MD that is definitely on my top 10 list of the best songs from the 90s.
Yes. Certainly one of the best songs but albums were way better in the 90s: if you put out garbage you aren’t going to get any radio spins or traction. Havoc is also one of the best rapper producers in rap history.
Shook ones and Nas I can't remember the name of the song but it's the one where it's about a gun and he starts at the end. One of my all-time favorites and is overlooked-forgotten about. It's a masterpiece
Part 2,Yes because there is a part 1. I’d put it in my top 5. It’s a beat that many rappers try to freestyle to, but part 2 is just laid down so smooth from prodigy and havoc. It’s a perfect track for me.
Shook Ones is one of the best rap songs of all time. The Infamous is also equally one of the best rap albums of all time. It has so many of the criminally underrated (pun intended) rap songs to date like Trife Life, The Start Of Your Ending (41st Side), Right Back At You and Drink Away The Pain (Situations). Personally, Trife Life is my favorite out of the album besides Shook Ones Pt. II
Yeah most probably I can’t think of any record right now as strong. As this one. Maybe. Ready or not fugees. Or gangster paradise but they had a RNB element to it.
I agree with so many of the comments period; though if you are a personal who has listened to hip hop from its inception its difficult to crown one song or album GOAT. I hearken back to Rakim, Kane, KRS and so many others. Respect to those in the room
All of these lists are hard because 90s rap was much more regional than music is now. As a Californian I didn’t listen to most of the East coast stuff that often comes up. Nothing against any of it, just wasn’t as available or part of the local culture.
The only East coast stuff I can remember really hearing was biggie, illmatic and reasonable doubt.
Stuff like mobb deep was way too niche for where I grew up. Maybe I’m the anamoly.
I actually just listened to the album yesterday (for about the 100th time) and I can’t help myself, I always thought Survival of the Fittest is better. Unpopular opinion.
No. While a top-tier song, it gets selected a lot by white men over 40 to force an implied street credibility. I mean, if they likeMobb Deep, they must have some kind of level of urban intelligence which validates any of their opinions on the topic. They don't want to look like complete nerds in front of the couple of Black people they keep around.
RI"P".. Prodigy is just one of the illest ever. He's got an audio book out its like 6_7 hours long I think shit goes from him being young until after Hell on Earth I think...ITS FIRE because he narrates it.
Def molded the hardcore east coast sound, super influential. I'd say so... it's just so hard for me to boil down such a great decade to a few songs lol.
Top 10 all time.
Not just the 90s.
