Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science (Extended Version)
1982Some background on this track and Dolby…
In addition to playing with Foreigner and on some of their biggest hits, he also played keys on Def Leppard's Pyromania album and later on Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth”.
Lots of other stuff too.
He has had an eclectic, diverse, and successful career. Much more than just a “one hit wonder” that many believe.
I’ve always loved this song and it’s a testament to the 80s that such an experimental and weirdly beautiful creation was able to claim significant airplay in North America.
This song exemplifies why I love the early 80s music - experimental and fun.
Edit: A few words added.
Here’s a really interesting video of him explaining how he wrote it! https://youtu.be/MHbciVrgcGA?si=gOQU468eW98PVnxK
Had no idea he played with foreigner and def leopard. That is some really cool info. Thanks!
Science!!
The science was meth. “I can smell the chemicals”. She blinded me with meth.
My guess is that no one in the US knew who Magnus Pike was
Always loved that song.
…and antiquated notions

Just because we were a bunch of morons, we always sang, "She blinded me with spray paint!"
Good heavens Miss Sakamoto, you’re beautiful!!
