Not perfect, but damn, I honestly didn't realize PETG could do so well. I see a lot of posts and comments about it being poor for bridging and overhangs, and some people even refuse to print with it. But once it's dialed in it prints about as well as PLA.

It's definitely tougher to get the settings right, PLA and PLA+ are more forgiving. Especially around cooling, PLA just wants as much as possible all the time while PETG wants it only when absolutely necessary. It also necessitates a lower overall speed, most importantly for the first layer. But now that it's pretty much dialed in (and fully dried!), the print quality is definitely smooth. And I quite like the glossy finish personally.
Tomorrow, I'm going to turn the temps up and the speed down a tad. Found a guide that looked pretty solid. GL on your prints ✌️

With petg you really only need the fans on during bridging and during the top layers.

I bought a Petg by accident last week, been using PLA only.. first print at 0.2mm and creality standard settings came out very smooth and nice, haven't tried it on a smaller setting yet as that was just a functional print. Needless to say I ordered a load more PETG and about to try a benchy shortly. If .2mm was so good I have high expectations
When PETG works, it's my favorite thing to print with. But it is way more sensitive to moisture than PLA, and you really have to get it dialed in perfectly.
I will say, however, my recent experiments in ASA have been.... pleasantly surprising. But I also have a printer with an enclosed print volume.
Still smellier than PETG though.
Bring your nozzle temp down for a matte finish, by mistake i printed black petg with a nozzle temp of 215C and ended up with a matte finish on the print. Usually I print with 240C
Or print it too fast.
Both will hurt layer adhesion, a lot, but sometimes it’s form over function.

Try this settings, you can lower temperature to 245 as this is settings for specific Petg, but probably still it will be good to go even with copying 1:1 them with yours. Also, you can check retractions, if this won't look perfect, reduce speeds to 25mm/s in overrides tab
Also cooling, you can set to minimum 0 or even raise to 35%. 9 seconds in both are trick to make 50% kick in only in topmost surfaces where it needs extra cooling in certain scenarios (in my example it was ear tips that were baked before without it) Also you can try to reduce layer times to 8 8 seconds or even 7 7 if you have some speedy Petg
Petg is my goto material. Uv resistance, higher temp then pla and doesn't sag. I believe it also outgasses less then pla

PETG is an amazing material to print with. Enjoy having fun with it.
It's just as easy as pla I won't even get pla petg is better and same price just not as many options
Main reason I like petg is that shit will stick to a bed and not let go, so you usually don’t run into issues with warping off the bed like pla can. Main con I can think of is that it can be stringy and you need to bring slow to get the best results (which also defeats the whole arms race for faster printing).
I exclusively print in petg, I feel like overall it has the fewest cons.

I don't get how most seems to have a easy time with pla and a hard time with pets. I'm the opposite. Always liked petg and it was always easy to print.
PETG is great, the "jet black" from your picture is the one i don't like because of the color. Forme black has to be dark not shiny.

I print mostly with PLA+ for many years, but after upgrading my printer and gaining the ability to use PETG, it's now my go-to material for outdoor prints. It has superior UV, heat, and water resistance over PLA+.
I have changed to mainly petg after finding that Fiberlogy Matte that looks like carbon fiber additive. But it's hard to tune and takes a lot of understanding of material to print it without flaws
Thats a beautiful surface finish. And besides around the eye, can barely even notice the layer lines in that image.
On photo it's more pronounced than in real life, thanks to pixel HDR photo it over sharpened and highlighted layers more than it is in print. Fiberlogy Matte Petg Try it, it's not expensive
I've got a love/hate relationship with PETG.
I find it really fussy to print, and unpredictably so. I've still not found a print surface that adheres consistently; probably best so far is hairspray on spring steel, but I'm persevering with G10 as that looks to be a zero-maintenance one-size-fits-all if I can get it dialled in. I rarely have problems printing PLA, TPU or even ABS/ASA.
That said, I like the material's properties in finished pieces. It's a very tough material, and the way it deforms rather than just breaking catastrophically is good. The springiness is useful too.
I print about 10,000 parts per year in PETG and I can share a couple of tips with you... I've used Garolite for Nylon, but never tried it on PETG. My go-to for a bed surface is kapton tape, roughed-up with some 300 grit sandpaper and sprayed with a quick dusting of AquaNet or Suave. The cheaper the hairspray, the better.
It's definitely less forgiving, but the material properties make it worthwhile. I have found that it's well worth paying-up for quality material. When compared to a $25 spool from Amazon, a $50 spool from IC3D or Matterhackers pro line will print like an absolute dream.

How the hell do you manage to not get any stringing ? Let's say that I can't get mine to look anything other than... functional. Are you using any fancy nozzle or just good settings ?
Well first I dried it at 60c for about 24 hrs which made a big difference, the spool came in the mail fairly damp it seems. I print at 230-240c and then have retraction at 1mm with no z hop and that seemed to do the trick.

I could never dial in my pla, so I only print in Petg now.
Just started using it today. Coming from PLA+, there was a noticeable difference. Again, I'm just getting started with it, but the glossy finish was a little turn-off coming from a more flat finish appearance of the PLA+. Durability is nice. Print quality isn't quite as smooth. I feel like I need to turn the temp up some to help. TBD. The price was good, though.
