Vivedino Troodon

The Troodon was a large, pre-assembled coreXY 3D printer that closely resembled the Voron 2. It differed in some ways, such as by running RepRap Firmware and using a different extruder setup, but nonetheless used a similar flying gantry design.

This printer was removed on March 6, 2022 for being not as well known.

CR-10 V3

A large-format bedslinger that was a continuation of Creality's CR-10 series. This was a solid upgrade as it used a genuine E3D direct extruder.

This printer was removed from the Potential Recommendations list on April 21, 2022 due to Creality's terrible practices .

Ender 3 S1

A massive upgrade to Creality's extremely popular Ender-3 series, the Ender 3 S1 fixed a majority of the issues that wrought its older cousins, which actually made it a decent machine. The introduction of the Ender 3 S1 generally resulted in more direct-drive, dual Z bedslingers being released which was quite a step-up from the race to the bottom with shoddy Ender-3 clones.

This printer was removed on April 21, 2022 due to Creality's terrible practices .

Ender 5 Plus

The Ender 5 Plus was recommended due to its massive size and cube frame design, which gave it large amounts of upgrade potential. Otherwise the printer was fairly lackluster stock, using the common Ender 3 parts (aka, not good). This was the only good Ender 5 design back then due to having dual Z axes.

This printer was removed from the Potential Recommendations list on April 21, 2022 due to Creality's terrible practices .

Anycubic Mega SE

The Mega SE was a slight upgrade from their older Mega, being equipped with a silent motherboard. It was a fairly generic Ender-3 clone but with a unique BMG-like extruder and very low cost which made it an attractive option.

This printer was removed on June 30, 2022 for critically lacking Thermal Runaway Protection, the introduction of new cheap printers, being discontinued, and due to Anycubic's decreasing quality control.

Anycubic Vyper

The Anycubic Vyper was more or less a copy of Creality's CR-6SE, but upgraded to actually work well. It was slightly larger, had a good extruder and a high-flow hotend. However, the printer suffered some issues due to its proprietary auto-levelling system, which made it more difficult to upgrade (especially to make the hotend all-metal) and the poor quality control resulted in issues with levelling.

This printer was removed from the Potential Recommendations list on October 12, 2022 due to Anycubic's increasing poor quality control, as well as being outclassed by newly released printers.

Sovol SV01

The Sovol SV01 was a fairly generic bedslinger printer that was noted for its direct feed extruder, but came with an odd bed size and outdated motherboard.

This printer was removed on November 28, 2022 for being outdated and outclassed by newly released printers.

Creative 3D Elf/Pro

Similar in appearance to the Coreception and Sapphire, the Elf is a decent large-format coreXY printer that used linear rails on X and Y.

This printer was removed on December 15, 2022 for having limited availability and community.

E3D Toolchanger

The E3D toolchanger is a formidable machine, capable of operating with four separate toolheads for all sorts of work, which included 3D printing but also CNC.

This machine was removed from the Potential Recommendations list on March 3, 2023 because it would be too involved for a relative newcomer to build and setup. The Toolchanger is now discontinued.

Sovol SV01 Pro

Upgrade of the earlier SV01 to include more up-to-date parts and features.

This printer was removed on March 29, 2023 for being outclassed by newly released printers available for lower costs.

Sovol SV03

The SV03 was like a larger SV01 but comes with autolevelling and a silent motherboard.

This printer was removed on April 1, 2023 for being outdated and being discontinued.

Qidi X-plus

A relatively large printer that shipped fully enclosed, which made it good for printing materials like ABS/ASA out of the box. Like all Qidi printers of that time, they had some issues with proprietary components (mostly the firmware).

This printer was removed on April 1, 2023 for being outdated.

Tronxy X5SA

The Tronxy X5SA was a massive, relatively cheap CoreXY printer that was a poor performer stock but had large upgrade potential (check the VzBot). Its inclusion into the lists was similar to that of the Ender 5 Plus.

This printer was removed on April 2, 2023 because the X5SA needs major upgrades to unlock its full potential. The lists since then now ranks printers with minimal to no upgrades.

Flyingbear Reborn

This was a coreXY printer that was quite fast, but very limited information about it otherwise was known to me, which was the reason for its removal.

This printer was removed from the Potential Recommendations list on April 4, 2023 for not being well-known and being potentially superseded.

Anycubic Kobra

Released shortly after the Ender-3 S1 and likely as a direct competitor, the Kobra was a relatively cheap bedslinger that used a direct extruder and a reliable inductive autolevelling system. Flaws included the difficulty of an all-metal hotend upgrade and only a single Z axis.

This printer was removed on April 6, 2023 due to being outclassed by newly released printers available for lower prices, and due to Anycubic's increasingly poor quality control.

Artillery Genius Pro

The original model, the Genius, was formerly one of the top picks due to its incredibly low cost but having features that made it rival much more expensive ones, such as direct feed extruder, high flow hotend, and even AC bed heating. The upgraded Pro model is somewhat less reliable due to a sometimes faulty ABL sensor.

This printer was removed on April 7, 2023 for being outclassed by newly released printers of similar performance levels that were available for lower prices, and Artillery's increasingly poor quality control.

Artillery Sidewinder X2

Larger version of the Genius, otherwise the same. This printer stayed on the list a bit longer due to its large size and relatively good price.

This printer was removed on April 7, 2023 for Artillery's increasingly poor quality control.

Fokoos Odin-5 F3

The Odin-5 was fairly similar to the Genius in specs, the main gimmick of it being that it can fold down for storage, which could potentially compromise rigidity.

This printer was removed on April 13, 2023 for not being well known and being discontinued.

Anycubic Kobra Go

A souped-up Ender 3 clone that is actually easy to use and won't break every couple prints, mainly attractive for its incredibly low cost.

This printer was removed on May 29, 2023 for Anycubic's increasingly poor quality control and practices.

Prusa i3 MK3S+

Probably one of the greatest and most popular FDM printers out on the market, especially before Bambulab started showing up. The MK3S+ is a reliable workhorse with extensive support and many useful features, making it a very good machine despite its age. The primary downside was its fairly extreme cost, nearly four times that of an Ender 3.

This printer was removed on July 3, 2023 for being superseded by the new Prusa MK4. Otherwise, it is still a great performer if still available.

Kingroon KP3S 3.0

lol image cap

A cantilever-style 3D printer that was noted for its direct feed extruder, linear rails on X and Y axis, and low cost. This was one of the top options for cheap 3D printing because it was a fairly good machine, especially when upgraded with Klipper firmware, and is very upgradable.

This printer was removed from the lists on December 7, 2023 because it has become fairly outdated in terms of specifications compared to newer printers that are easier to use. It is in a somewhat similar position to the X5SA listed before, in that it needs upgrades to allow it to perform with newer machines. It can still be a decent choice if you know what you are doing.

FLSUN SR

too lazy to split it into two parts right now

One of the few delta 3D printers that was recommended. Not only was it fairly large, but also capable of fairly fast prints out of the box. The printer had some pretty good parts like a high-flow hotend.

This printer was removed from the lists on December 7, 2023 due to being old compared to newer printers that are easier to use.
