In my fantasy world, s/he would replace Biden. Otherwise, in 2028 I want to vote for the candidate that makes housing the front and center issue.
We can nitpick about how much the federal executive branch can do, like I doubt you can make an executive order to eliminate single family zoning nationwide, but hell, if Trump can campaign on “BUILD THE WALL” and people eat that up, somebody should campaign on “BUILD TEN MILLION HOMES” and you’d have record under-45 turnout and win 95% of that vote.
It would be such a winning issue. It’s the kitchen-tablest of kitchen-table issues. Housing affordability. Building homes. We can tackle the other parts of affordability like regulating private equity and cracking down on vacant properties but my candidate would scream through a bullhorn BUILD MORE HOUSING loud and clear at every rally.
