I normally use a cartridge razor to shave my cheeks and below my neckline but do you guys think it’s worth buying a safety razor if I’m not going to completely shave my face? I would just use it on my cheeks and below the neck, also what would be a good first safety razor for someone barely starting?
Very true
It took me maybe 5 weeks to work it out and now it’s all good. No nicks and a very close shave. I wouldn’t go back to cartridge. But I only use each blade maybe twice and have no issues
The answer is yes. However your 2nd question has a various amount of answers. I would say just starting out the pearl ssh01 (classic razor) from Amazon is a good bet for the money. It's 17 bucks on Amazon, smooth, cool knurling, and good weight. You can also go with the weishi classic butterfly razor but it's pretty mild.
My advice is get something inexpensive 20 to 25 bucks and less. Otherwise it's not worth it.
A basic disposable with bulk replacement carts runs anywhere from 40 - 80 dollars at Costco, spending at least that much on a quality safety razor would be a wise investment.
Yes but why would you if you don't know if a razor will suit you or haven't developed your technique? Also there are inexpensive razors who out shave expensive razors. Razorock mission and mentor are quality razors and you can get both for about 20ish bucks. Same goes for maggards pearl and many more. Once you know what suits you you can spend money on an expensive razor. Just because a razor is expensive doesn't mean it's good.
All good points, I started with a Henson and know very well that an expensive razor isn’t going to suit every face. The biggest unknown when starting out is what type of razor is going to suit the owner best. I got better at using the Henson but I didn’t really start enjoying wet shaving fully til I got an adjustable razor and started playing with more aggressive blade gaps.
I guess what I’m saying is that OP should get a Gamechanger, Rockwell 6C or similar. These should have a setting or base plate that work for every face.
Something similar happened to me and I own the RR lupo and pearl flexi among others. However I prefer that op not spend 60 to 120 bucks without not knowing what works for op and what his preferences are.
Is the game changer as smooth as is reported?
Aye, it is! I got the Lupo first, it was the .72 and I really really liked it but it was just a little bit too mild for shaving my head, so I picked up the .95 baseplate and the Gamechanger in a .84 while I was at it. I like the Gamechanger even more than the Lupo it turned out.
Urgh your an enabler 🤬🤯😤. I kid but yeah I might have to get it especially if it has open comb plates? I have all the lupo plates (haven't tried 3 of them yet) but both are great razors imo.
Haha I’m afraid it does have open combs
My wallet is going to cry but I'll definitely look into it thanks!
Why spend so much when de Gillette king c costs maybe 15 and is perfectly capable?
It’s not though, not for everyone. Some people have fine hair, some coarse and dense. I’m the latter and I’m not into 5 pass shaves trying to get a decent shave with a mild razor. I’m just suggesting options that aren’t one size fits most.
Yes. I have a beard, but I shave my cheeks and neckline. Can't speak to the razor, but get a good blade sampler. Look at some of the previous posts if no one provides a link in this one.
There's a seller on ebay where you can build your own mix of blades. Astra green were good for me, but not sure how they are since they moved production to India. Treet Kings from Pakistan were a good find.
Yes they are Just get yourself a Gillette King C safety razor and a pack of blades 100ct and they would last you forever If you just barely shave.
This. It's so easy and cheap, don't understand why others make it seem so complicated. Just do what u/Alex_tepa said.
Very true but people have different opinions so.
Hopefully that's a good razor and enjoys whatever he gets
I’ve worn a mostly full beard since I was 15 and a Van Dyke for a decade. I still use a double edged razor.
They’re great razors.
Btw: for the last year and a half I’ve had to use an electric razor (cancer treatment and immune suppressed) that someone here sent me. A great gesture, but shaving with it was nothing like using a safety razor. It’s nice to get back to it, although I still use the electric when I’m in a hurry.
I’ve got a Merkur 38C and some King C Gillette blades I’m not using if you’re interested. Would be a good start. PM me!
I used to full shave all the time, but I just got sick of it and my beard has filled out enough that it looks alright. Now I just use my Parker 92r for my neck and cheeks. I bought a 100pk of blades YEARS ago (when I would full shave) and will not be buying more any time soon.
Get a Yaqi slope or Romulus
Baili BD176 $10. Shaves really well for the price and is very mild and safe. Perfect for what you need.
Is the same as the Kanzy isn't it? I use the Kanzy for travelling and I'm always impressed how well it works for that price
Could be?
So pay way less per shave and get your lines sharp… 100% worth it… you also don’t have to spend 150$, gillette king c is 20$, sometimes even less…
Get one good one, one that a LOT of people recommend, like a Merkur 34C, and you'll get your money's worth.
Yes
You've just written the packaging blurb for the King C Gillette DE razor!.
The DE razor is perfect for detail work.
