JPY: USD at three decade lows = peek into every liquor store you come across…
The joy you feel when you open your suitcase and your bottles survived ❤️
When was your flight? I’ve never seen anything good flying home. Congrats
May 4th, Star Wars style. Believe it or not the exact same spot 4 years ago I picked up a Yamazaki 18 LE for 40,000 yen. I like to think it is due to all the times I could’ve been greedy and bought 2 allocated bottles but instead bought one and left one for someone else
Haha definitely good karma. What time of the day were your flights? All of mine have been in the middle of the day, I think that might be my problem
425 pm. I’m not really sure how/when they put out bottles but both times I’ve gotten lucky there was only one on the shelf
Damn, congrats!
Actually this time too they had the yamazaki smoky batch for around $150 which secondary stores were asking $3-400
You magnificent son of a bitch
Cheers ❤️
I can't wait until you try them
Tried both Suntory whiskies before but never the WT12. Hoping for good things as it seems I will never see a RR13 in the wild in my state.
I am actually super interested to blind the hibiki 17 against hibiki blenders choice. BC was always my go to Japanese whisky pickup rec for friends going to Japan but I was surprised to see the BC price double in the 4 years since I was last in Japan this time around.
Yeah the RR13 is hard to find. I've only seen it once. The WT12 is definitely a unicorn for me and the other 2...maybe when I get rich.
I’m sure you’ll be there quick! Plus the Japanese whisky market is supposed to stabilize sometime soon with all the increased production and hopefully will stop being stupid $$$.
Perhaps. If they would hurry and build that highway to Japan I'd get going soon.
The Hibiki 17 is my clear favourite out of any others in their range that I’ve tried. It’s a lovely dram. Not tried the 30yo but most others.
I sniffed my luggage when I pulled it off the carousel yesterday, I can relate to the relief! Cheers!
I’ve been traveling for work for a long time now. I usually by a yoga mat from Ross and trim it and weave it between the bottles and cutouts for the bottom. Clothes all around otherwise. Have never lost a bottle yet, probably 60 in already.
Dang that’s pretty ingenious. I just use boring wine skins. Haven’t lost a bottle yet but still gets my heart rate up when I see it slam into the bottom of the baggage carousel 😅
Awesome idea. I bought these bubble wrap sleeves that are the shape of bottles at a liquor store in Nashville way back. They have come in handy!
I had a moment of panic when my bag came out wet but then I remembered it was pouring outside and all the others bags were wet too
I Just traveled with six bottles in my luggage all survived, so happy when you unpack those bad boys.
Enjoy that WT12. I really enjoy it, and I was hoping that I could find it in places somewhat near Japan last month (Fiji, NZ, AUS) - I was wrong. Didn't find a single bottle, sadly.
I always bring liquor bottle bubble wrap when I travel to Japan and tape. don't forget tape
WT12=$50 local store I stumbled by in Meguro City HAK18LE=$330 at HND duty free HBK17=$430 at Life Vacation Ginza
