Can someone explain when the Celtics have to worry about the apron?
It’ll get pricey in 25/26 when Tatum/White’s deals kick in, potentially financially untenable in 26/27 when Porzingis’s deal kicks in. They’ve got the benefit what’ll likely be 10% cap raises to soften the blow. In contrast, the cap was relatively flat from 2019 to present, which hurt us.
That said, the Celtics pulled in ~1.3b in revenue over the last 3 years. With the new TV deal and continued deep playoff runs they should clear $500m/season and likely more. If their new ownership wants to, they can continue to keep paying for the team for the next 2-4 years.
2025/26 is gonna cost them $0.5b in total roster cost.
long term, they're gonna have to first let the Horford and then the Porzingis salary slots lapse without replacing them with other expensive players.
I think their window is still open once Al retires and Kristaps leaves, but I think their window for the current roster cost is just this coming season and next. after that they'll have to figure some stuff out.
first step would probably to trade Holiday, eventually.
