These Warners were from Upstate NY. In 1906, one of their nephews was involved in an infamous murder that spawned books and movies. Chester Gillette-Grace Brown.
Yikes. Scary story.
Does a piano fall on you if you wear them
Later known as Warners and Warnaco Group.
Interested in the nursing corset ngl
I wonder if Bernadette Banner, fashion historian, has talked about it before. She has many educational videos about corsetting and discusses their history and busts myths about them.
Edit: here it is
I've watched her videos before, don't remember seeing about this earlier. Some wear these supportive "belts" after giving birth, so a proper made-to-measure corset might feel nice? And made specifically for nursing I don't think it would be very uncomfortable
Oh my gosh can you imagine how uncomfortable it must have been to wear a corset when you're nursing! Trying to breathe while producing milk
I assume the advert is about a old-fashioned made-to-measure corset which mostly did the work of a bra and the fashionable silhouettes were mostly padding, I don't think it would restrict breathing like many think they do. Kind of comparing it to these supportive stomach belts that some use after giving birth to (maybe) recovering quicker
In nearly every era where corsetry was used, they weren't worn tight enough to make breathing a problem. A corset was more like a supportive bra combined with a posture corrector or back brace; it fit snugly and held everything in place but it wasn't uncomfortable.
Honestly, pregnancy is so hard on your body that having the extra support would probably feel really nice and help with healing.
These weren't from the same Warner Bros who started the studio. It's the ones who lived in the water tower with their sister, Dot.
Reminds me a bit of an Edward Gorey illustration.
the Other Mother would love this brand
Imagine all the boys who slipped into the store to look at the sexy corset ads…I think the Sears catalogs actually had drawings with the women modeling the corsets 😉
No one thought to NSFW this?
"How lewd."
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman.
The Warner Brothers who opened the film studio in the US didn't even arrive in the US (emigres from Poland) until 1889. So, no relationship.
