I’m travelling from Amsterdam to Newquay on June 19. I’m planning on taking a flight from Amsterdam to London Gatwick first from 7:00 - 7:15am. Then I want to take a seperate transer flight from London Gatwick to Newquay from 9:25 - 10:45am. Is this enough time for me to transfer or is it too risky (possible delay, different terminals). I don’t have checked in baggage, just handbaggage. How does a transfer work on London Gatwick? I’m not sure if I’ll be in the same terminal so I’m afraid I might have to do passport control and security all over again.
I could also take a flight from Amsterdam to London Gatwick that lands at 9:10am and then take a seperate transfer flight to Newquay that departs at 2:50pm. This does give me a lot of waiting time. Is there a little city or place to go outside of London Gatwick on walking distance?
Which is the best option?
You'll need to go through passport control on arrival at Gatwick as your next flight is an internal flight within the UK.
Check what terminals the flights depart from, it's based on what airline you are using, you can check it here: https://www.gatwickairport.com/flights/which-terminal.html
The airport recommends 60 minutes for transfers within the same terminal and 90 minutes for those in the other terminal. In either case, I think you will need to pass through security again, although I'm not 100% certain on that. The train which takes you between terminals is great, very quick and frequent.
Anecdotally, I find Gatwick to be very well run and I've never had an issue before. If booking on the same ticket then I personally would go for the 7am to 9am transfer based on my experience at Gatwick, but if you're less risk averse and you don't want the stress, take the other option.
