i’m leaning towards flying to berlin and then going to wittenberg by train. Are the train tickets expensive? Should i buy them beforehand?
You should buy ahead of time, by a week at least if possible but you could do it now. You can check prices on bahn.com, it'll be about 20 euro each way. "ICE" trains are faster than "RE" trains.
If you plan to do more train travel over the course of the month it might be worth getting the 49 euro ticket "Deutschland-Ticket", which would make the RE trains free, but they've deliberately made it a big hassle to get.
Thanks so much!
Use Google Flights to find a flight and then book it directly with the airline. Don’t use a website that isn’t the airline website to book a flight, ever. Looks like you have 2 options for those dates under 500€: https://www.google.com/travel/flights/search?tfs=CBwQAhojEgoyMDI0LTA4LTAzagcIARIDVEJTcgwIAxIIL20vMDE1NnEaIxIKMjAyNC0wOC0zMGoMCAMSCC9tLzAxNTZxcgcIARIDVEJTQAFIAXABggELCP___________wGYAQE
Thank you!
Hey look at the FAQ! Guide to Airfare Search Engines: https://www.reddit.com/r/travel/wiki/airfare/
When: nobody knows - when it fits your budget.
How: airline's website, use a credit card if you can
Don't buy from Kiwi.
Ideally, buy the tickets from the airline directly. You can use Kiwi or Google Flights to find options.
It's hard to say when they will be cheapest. On average it's about a month and a half before the trip, but for any trip you never know.
For the route, eventually you just have to choose one. Worth figuring out how much the final part of the transportation will cost, including any extra hotel stays that might be necessary, so that you can compare the options fully.
I've taken the train from Berlin to Wittenberg and back, it's fairly easy. Shouldn't be too difficult from Lepizig either.
