I get this is probably just rage bait, but with the amount of food the western world wastes on a regular basis...there are bigger issues.
I make a point to return any food, especially fresh food, back on the right shelve when some stupid dickhead abandon items anywhere or near the cash registers. When employees find abandonned food, they are requires to throw them away; even when the packaging is unopened or intact. So Why throw perfectly good food?
Small business would never do this, but big corporations have bad policies and massive wastefulness.
Children regularly starve while food goes to landfills. There is not enough shame.
I'm pretty sure that a kid did this..

I became sort of famous in my school for basically eating the entire cafeteria lunch before I got to the cash register. Consistently under a minute. I’d buy a star crunch or something to explain why I was in line.
Whole rotisserie in five-ten minutes. No problem.

Probably homeless and needed it. I was only offended by not being discreet about it, but maybe they thought "oh, I'll just leave this mess here so it's easy to spot and take care of"

I don't know about other cities but my local Target has fallen apart. There's clothes haphazardly left on the floor and general neglect and disorder. Obviously they are having some major staffing issues and the kids that are working there have shit for work ethic.
Whenever I hear people talk about shit work eithic. I think about how the way these companies operate, you literally can't get a raise unless you move up a position like Manager or something. And then they'll be working for $13/hr or something. Like yeah, ofcourse the place is delapetated, the company themselves obviously don't care
Why take a job there then? The pay and job description are clear, and it's not exactly rocket science to hang up clothes and scan barcodes. There's no excuse for being that incompetent. Just leave instead of whining and behaving like a lazy little kid.
Because the work needs to be done and the bills need to be paid. I sincerely hope you realize how privileged you are to have that view one day. But aside from that, putting the issue on the people is completely undermining the real legitimate issue that we actually can address and fix, which is the store and the system it's under itself. Petty little character assessments are not going to fix this mess.
The Targets in my area actually have undergone wicked renovations. They added more self checkouts, a Disney exclusive section and a mini Ulta Shop. And it's always in an organized state. Bummed out that they got rid of the food courts tho.
Because they only had time out when they were naughty.

Ive found if you put a pat of butter on and microwave for a few seconds they are much better! That trick works for every kind of cookie or cake.

I'd say about once a year I get a craving for those cookies. But I genreslly cannot finish the package before I go back to thinking they are too sweet and gross.
It's crazy that when I seem homeless people buy or "liberate" food from grocers, a lot of them live on a diet of cakes, cookies, candy bars, and Arizona drinks (the ones with 3x the amount of sugar one should consume in a day). They're living like humming birds. Their diet's gotta be killing them quicker than the fentanyl.
I've never seen vegetables, when they buy milk or meat, they discard whatever they don't finish on the sidewalk where they were eating, even when there's a ton of it left. I see half-drunk gallons of milk, when they could have bought a quart. They could buy tomato soup or beef and vegetable stew. Oatmeal, bananas, etc.
The same person who does this is the same person who berates a poor employee at length when they find something like this in a store.

That's pathetic. I can understand stealing food and stealing clothing for warmth… I can understand that. What I can't understand are the pieces of shit stealing beauty products and iPhones (they're too stupid enough to realize that the phones will just lock automatically and be useless). It's greed. It's that simple. I understand poverty being on disability and previously living in a group home. There's simply no excuse for theft. There are resources out there for people that need help. This affects us ALL.
The phones aren't for them. They sell them on Facebook marketplace to some sap too stupid to do an IMEI check before purchasing a phone.
