Hi everyone.

After buying my new T480S (https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/amrof7/my_first_thinkpad_in_almost_20_years/ ), I was looking for a suitable data SIM to put on the 4G integrated slot.

I'm in Portugal, so I had ONE main concern (besides price, of course): the SIM had to support roaming, not only in Europe but, if possible, to other countries too.

I have a contract with Vodafone, but they only sell you a data SIM with roaming capabilities with another contract. And I wanted a "pay as you go" solution.

After looking around, I ordered a "Three" data SIM from Amazon UK (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M3VJ2B2/). The main advantage, besides roaming, is that you get a full 24GB of data that is valid for 24 months. After that you can "recharge" the card or simply buy a new one.

I was worried that I would have problems activating the card outsider UK, but after chatting with the guys at Three, they reassured me that I should have no problems. The trick is to first put it on your phone; you will then receive an activation code by SMS and you're good to go: just take it from the phone, put it on the Thinkpad and it works like a charm.

Here in Portugal, roaming is through Altice, one of the main Telecom operators.

As you can see from the Amazon page I linked above, it supports roaming also to other countries - including USA.
