[Request] Ghost crabs can run up to 100 body lengths per second. If the average human could do the same. How fast would they be running?
The average human male is 1,71 meters tall. So, 100 body lengths per second would be 171 m/s, or 615,6 km/h (383 mph). That’s just over 14 times faster than Usain Bolt’s top speed.
Thank you!
You could maybe barely go 370mph in a new super super car but you would really have to know what you’re doing to do that , can you imagine running into a wall or even tripping, running at 370mph?? Yea them shoes coming off 🤣
Hypercars, they're called Hypercars
I'm not going to lie, I prefer super super cars and I'm hoping a manufacturer feels the same way as me...
***super duper cars
I second the super duper cars.
I third the super duper cars
I think as body lenghts in this case would be the width of the body, so the diameter of your shoulders/hips
But it's width, not height. How wide is the average human?
Except we don't run upwards into the sky, we run forwards.
Or faster than any car ever
That's insane. For comparison, F1 cars usually top out at around 360km/h. I don't think even the most extreme dragsters can hit 600km/h
Top fuel tops out around 335. But that’s for 1000’!
Over 1/3rd of the speed of sound
Guesstimating the average human body length as 30 centimetres (12 inches) from heel to toe or from butt to chest, humans could run at around 100 kmh (faster than an ostrich, somewhat slower than a cheetah).
I think is only fair to talk about the body length on the axis of movement (depth instead of height). If you factor the incline of the body while running as extra length, you could double or triple the top speed above.
Are we going by height or by width? The ratio on that crab looks like it is 2-1, width to height, which is why I am asking, and we are a bit different than that.
If we are calling our longest dimension our length, the average man is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and the average woman is 5 feet 4 inches tall. scaling that up, that is 533 feet per second for women, 575 feet per second for men.
Adjusting another step here, both values are multiplied by 3,600 (number of seconds in an hour) to get 1918,800 - 20,700,000 feet, and finally just to round it out dividing by 5280 to get 363 - 392 miles per hour. That is about half the speed of sound.
Depends how you look at things. Crabs natural running direction is sideways, and ours is forwards, so bust depth instead of height would be a more pertinent measurement. According to a cursory Google search, the average adult male bust depth is 25cm.
25cm x 100 = 25m. Usain Bolt's fastest ever recorded running speed was 12.4m/s. These crabs are about twice as fast as the fastest human in each of their respective 'preferred' directions!
Based on wiki article, I estimate host crab to make about 15-20 steps per second to reach 2m/s (legs longer than body).
If humans were capable of moving their legs that fast, they'd walk at 10-15 m/s, or 35-50 km/h.
I think world record for walking is ~5 m/s, half that.
For me at 1.68m that would be 168m/s or 605km/h or 376mph. If you are talking width not height because of the shape of the crab then for me at 56cm wide would still be 56m/s which is 202km/h or 125.5mph. I would assume half that if we use depth not width.
