706 people named Kyle got together in Texas. It wasn’t enough for a world record
NewsHow many people named Kyle can fit in one place? For one Texas city, not enough.
Another attempt by the city of Kyle, Texas, to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with one name fell short Saturday despite 706 Kyles of all ages turning up at a park in the suburbs of Austin.
The crown is currently held by a town in Bosnia that got 2,325 people named Ivan together in 2017, according to Guinness World Records.
It’s not the first time the Kyles have come gunning for the Ivans. Last year, the official count at what has become known as the Gathering of the Kyles clocked in at 1,490 in the fast-growing Texas city that is about 37 miles south of Austin, the state’s capital.
They should tried to fill Kyle Field in college station instead
There’s absolutely no way there aren’t at least 706 Kyles in Kyle Field on any game day.
they are all spelt kighle these days.
There has to be at least one set of parents that named their kid Kegel by accident
Hahahahaha
There's at least that many Kyles there every home weekend
Why would anyone want to step foot on aggie soil? The cult is too creepy.
The Kyle Ivan war is really heating up it seems
It's clever that Kyle, TX wants to do this, but Kyle isn't even a very popular name around here.
Pulling the first names out of the publically available Travis County voting history download (the first thing that came to mind when I wanted to find the most popular names around here) came up with this list :

(I didn't try to fix different forms of the same name -- Michael vs Mike, for example.)
Alas, I don't know of a Michael, TX. But if anybody around here is going to beat Ivan in Bosnia, it's likely to be one of the top names on this list.
I went last year, and there were legit people named Kyle who'd flown in from Washington state and there were a couple who came from Australia. I drove in from out of the county. So just looking at Travis County isn't useful.
Sure, that sounds like a fun reason to make a trip. Like the "Josh Fight" of 2021.
But most of the people showing up are going to be somewhat local, and so if you pick a more common name, it seems likely to result in more people.
If Kyle, TX had done thing with the name "Michael" instead of "Kyle", they'd have given up the city name connection, but they'd probably have beaten the 2,325 Ivans in Kupres. They could have even made it a bit more fun by honorarily (i.e. not really) renaming the city to Michael, TX for a day or something in celebration.
And they still could do this, of course -- it might be harder now, but not impossible.
The issue here is that it's actually part of a celebration of the city, so it'd be really weird (and maybe even a PR problem) to be like "let's celebrate the city of Kyle by collecting a bunch of Michaels!"
Michael at the top? How does this affect LeBrons legacy?
I don't see any first name LeBrons, but I do see 8 people with a last name of LEBRON in the Travis County voting rolls.
(I guess there might be some kids named LeBron? When did LeBron really make it? Was it long enough ago that people might have named their kids after him and have them grow up to be civic-minded voters?)
I think we'll have to give this one to Michael.
Does the gathering have to be intentional? Cause I feel like that record should be for Mecca when they've had a particularly high number of pilgrimages, with so many Muslim men being named Muhammad
