Harris County, Texas has a larger population than that of 26 different states. Harris County now has more residents than each of the states that border Texas (Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico).
That sounds contradictory to the language in the preamble of the Constitution:
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
We aren't the only country with a federation-based structure, but to my knowledge we are the only ones who do our national elections this way.
