I may be wrong, but don't EV chargers usually lock in place or something?
they developed locks because of people like this
Yeah, that's the best part. There's no way this guy actually did this, or even tried it, otherwise he would've found out you can't unplug them without the key. The internet tough guy wasn't as bold a vigilante as he claimed to be? Shocked, I am!
I mean, it's in poor taste but it's clearly a joke. That is good to know about the locking plugs, though.
Mine does lock. Guy who made this is a durhurrrr big truuucker small pp idiot.
Yep, part of the CCS standard, only way to unplug them without the card is an emergency release under the hood.
Yeah this guy is an idiot we just kill the breakers and if they have a lockout on the breaker they are easy to remove with an allen wrench.
My car locks the plug along with the doors.
If someone drilled a hole in their tank in revenge they would lose it
I mean, not a good comparison.
If someone siphoned their gas into a trash can they'd lose it.
You dont think they would get angry from someone drilling their tank?
What you said would be property damage.
My alternative is a large inconvenience.
While both lead to the same end here, they are not equal. As one would also lead to repairs and potentially legal action.
They would have damaged the ev by removing a lead that would have been locked in place so they can hardly complain, well they can because they are hypocrits i guess
What about the damage to the ev if you care about damage so much
You don't know that.
The person posted this but we don't know the date of posting and even if it is recent, some ev owners only charge their vehicles in their home. This means that not all EV owners use the lock.
You are proposing purposeful surefire damage in response to something that implies major inconvenience without damage.
And if there is damage- As my biological son's biological father says- The big revengaroo would be to sue.
So they are going to break into their home instead and you think this is ok?
ICE fanatics are really something else fantasising about breaking into someones home to unplug someones EV. Its almost funny how dumb they are
When did I say that they will break into a home? You take meaning from dried up raisins
You said they were going to unplug their ev at home.
How were you going to get in without break and enter?
"Some ev users charge at home, this means that not all of them use a lock" where about my words. Did you not read past that sentence? It's implied that that reasoning is used to explain that not all ev owners have or use a lock.
The post says nothing about "ripping out plugs" just "unplugging".
Bro has a gold medal in mental gymnastics, lol
This almost feels like it should be a crime.
Also, do these people not realize that not all electricity comes from coal? As if fucking solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, or nuclear energy don’t exist
And even if your power is coming from a pollutive source like coal, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that the carbon emissions from charging an EV is far smaller than that of a car that runs on gasoline
EV charging ports lock with the doors.
Also: I believe the latest survey found that something like 90% of users charge at home.
One last thing: most EVs unlock their charging port when they finish charging. If someone did unplug it, it is only because it is fully charged.
Charging in parking lots is a nice convenience sometimes, but ultimately this is a totally fake scenario that no one needs to worry about happening.
Mine locks as soon as the charger negotiates a rate, and unlocks when I swipe my card over the reader. I’ve heard of it being linked to door locks and that’s horribly unintuitive to me.
I ended up with an EV rental car on a trip last month. (Not entirely my choice.) spent 1/2 of each day having to sit around somewhere to recharge it. Guess I learned my lesson.
Then you did something completely wrong as on a road trip you at most need to charge 10-15 minutes per like 2h drives. That’s also usually the time you need to get out of your car to stretch your legs and go to the bathroom etc.
Did you try charging it with a micro USB or something?
You probably used the 120V charger that came in the trunk. A proper fast charger would get you going again in 15 min.
I mean I was definitely and obviously doing SOMETHING wrong. I had to try and find YouTube tutorials to figure out how to plug it it and it’s slightly different with each companies type of charger.
I don't think its actually out of concern for the enivironment but more so just being an asshole. The implication of the post is that by unplugging the car's chargers they will at best, inconveience the drivers, and at worst, cause an accident that results in the drivers' death. They are "helping the planet" in the sense they're getting rid of electric cars and their drivers, because for some stupid reason they think both are dumb.
I think his reflection is that the ev continued to draw power even if not in use or fully charged. He's a moron
If the energy to power an EV is coming entirely from fossil fuel plants the difference is almost non existent or in some cases a ICE vehicle will come out ahead. So in large parts of America and the middle east EVs are pointless or even more damaging to the environment compared to ICE vehicles as most EV emissions come from the production of lithium ion batteries. In a place with mostly green energy or just charging at the vehicle owners house from solar panels you can expect an average of 60% reduction in vehicle emissions vs comparable ICE vehicles. There's a lot more to this discussion that just all of that aswell. For example, is focusing on private automotive use the best use of our resources. The vast majority of emissions are industrial, construction and energy, and even in the transport sector private transport makes up less than half. While shipping and air travel are making up more than half of transport and logistics emissions. The fact that governments are pushing EVs because it's the only "solution" that's economically beneficial should be questioned too, as car manufacturers will still have cars to sell and the rapid increase in energy usage will require the fossil fuel plants to remain open long term. Even with emission free battery tech which some companies are working on (not tesla as far as I know) will it be enough to stop or even influence the climate outcomes? (No) with India, Nigeria and plenty of other countries set in prime positions for rapid industrialisation that they'll want to do quickly and cheaply and therefore with fossil fuels, is it even possible for the co2 emissions to go down globally? If im completely honest I don't think we are going to make the nessecary changes in society to save the planet.
This is not true at all. A coal plant is more efficient than the most efficient ICE. Even if all EVs were powered by coal they'd be more efficient than an ICE.
This, it's economy of scale, and also generators can run at most efficient speed for electricity production
Agreed. We’re too far gone at this point.
Do you use your car when filling up with gasoline? This is such a stupid take lol
thats why you should poke a hole in their tank
Sure. Cause an environmental incident. I thought y'all just slashed tires on SUVs, so the victim is forced to buy more tires, and the ones you ruined are tossed into a landfill.
Never said I slash tires. I consider that stupid. My answer was just an hyperbole based on a stupid take depicted in the post.
I think one Greenpeace vigilante did that to a single Hummer in 1999 and the rest of the liberals were like wow what an asshole. Pathetic whatabout. Dismissed, back to your rocking chair and Perry Mason.
Say you've been gapped by an EV without saying.
What the fuck is wrong with these people? What's going so wrong in their lives that they need to do this? What happened to the good old American value of minding your own damn business?
Their mothers exclusively fed them formula, and they were exposed to lead paint.
These are the same people that stockpiled incandescent bulbs when LEDs happened.
EV's are necessary to have a competitively viable team in Smogon
Wasn’t expecting to see this here
And then he rode off to buy gas 2 cents cheaper in the other side of the continent
1.) They have locks
2.) This shit infuriates me. Anyone touching my car infuriates me, even putting a stupid notice on it. Don’t touch what is not yours (unless extremely necessary)
Unfortunately, it is probably gonna be necessary to add a locking mechanism to public EV plugs.
The amount of posters that seem to see this as factual documentation instead of a joke is disturbing.
Same persons head would explode if you went near their vehicle
I’m a car enthusiast and I like both evs and ice cars i hate the ragging on the ev community if someone is passionate about cars but wants to be more environmentally friendly that’s awesome and if someone prefers an ICE car that’s also cool but we need to stop hating on each other because of peoples preferences in engines
Sure, Grandma. While we're at it, let's unplug your electric scooter before it's done charging, since no one's using it! Gotta save the environment and all that!
Somebody has no job and a lot of time on their hands
I don't have an EV car, but I'm not opposed to getting one when the battery technology and infrastructure improve. In fact I look forward to it someday. I don't understand why people are so triggered about what other people are driving?? Like, why are you getting mad over your eyes merely coming across one??
I dont like evs but seriously why do people go to this extent?
As just a joke to post on the internet kinda funny. If put into action not funny
Imagine you have to use your car to get to a important meeting or something and your car is dead because of this asshole..it should be a crime to do that kind of stuff
