Am I misremembering this, or wasn't the Polaris' bridge section supposed to break away from the rest of the ship in an emergency, and become a smaller craft like in the second picture?
DISCUSSIONAgreed, pretty sure this was a community concept - "Hey, look at this visual separation, wouldn't it be cool if...?"
I don't recall it ever being discussed by the official sources.
No, it’s definitely the undisclosed Transformer (tm) feature where your Polaris will turn in to a big robot, Optimus Polaris.
So excited to yoink an innocent Connie out of QT with my Mantis Ass Cheeks and RAM that sucker into my groin. Optimus Polaris hip thrust: "YOU ARE MY CONNIE COCK MEEP MORP!" (Screams ensue)
Oh man, this comment makes me nostalgic for the good old days, back before I had read this comment.
let me change that again and introduce you to https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonsfuckingcars/
right up until you drop a Perseus out at 2km lol
And have the best possible ship to nuke it? Lmao
You do realize that a Polaris will never be able to land a torp on a perseus right. You are basing your expectations off s9 torpedoes which are a threat to a perseus. S10 torpedoes will be big, hard to shoot down, and very very slow. Also 2km is inside the torp range anyway and with the Perseus doing 24kdps straight to hull bc ballistics the Polaris will be dead in seconds
I may have misinterpreted what you meant but a Polaris is not winning at 2km
"Hey, look at this visual separation, wouldn't it be cool if...?"
Welcome to the entire design process of every ship in SC
I think the player headcanon was inspired by the Endeavor. Because the front of that ship is supposed to be able to detatch.
Yes, the front section of the Endeavour is supposed to act as a landing craft. The main hull can't land.
I think that just sold me the ship, what a cool concept!
Or the caterpillar
I cannot wait for the command module detachment for the caterpillar. Though it needs its cargo elevators first.
Command module separation required modularity tech to work, which we now have.
Elevators on the other hand, require the ramp tech to work as multiple animations (opening the gate, then lowering the elevator section of the gate), which from a previous post, they mentioned caused issues with the physics. No word since if that’s been resolved.
I thought I saw someone say they decided to not do that with the cat at this point?
Not sure on that. I fully expect it will be way way later, if possible. Treating the command module as a modular piece is way different than the implementation for the retaliator. The Tali module swap happens behind the 'magic screen', where the cat command pod would need something like docking as well as modularity to have a hope of working
Yeah in either case I'm definitely not holding my breath. Thankfully there are plenty of other cool things to play with.
Damn. I'm surprised I remember this at all, tbh, it was one thing I might have skimmed over briefly years ago.
Agreed. It was wildly speculated that this was what it was supposed to do based on appearance alone, but it's never actually been stated.
It was. And it also was a great idea imo. Not really possible maybe with the torpedo launch bay, but I'm hoping for more ships with 'saucer separation' and then ending up with 2 flyable viable ships :D
It can be separated, but only once. :)
Worth it.
oh boy, its my turn
Am I broken or is the link? It says unavailable for me.
You are broken sadly, the video was amazing
Can confirm. Absolutely amazing video. Better than the Lord of the rings trilogy.
idk seems fine to me
just look up "front fell off" on youtube :D
I love that bit! Thanks the fact that I couldn't get the link to work was creating some real fomo.
no fomo allowed, fomo bad 🤣
your front fell off.
Looks like new reddit broke the link. The proper link is this video.
Om this is hilarious
That was a good laugh, thanks for the link.
This looks like it could easily be a Monty python skit. Lmao
What's the minimum crew requirement?
Oh... one, i suppose.
Never realised until now how you could put this meme all over SC....
Now MM has been introduced what have you changed the ships armour to?
Cardboard.
Can you call me a cab?
Why? Didn't you come in a ship?
Well the front fell off.
Oh god, youre right.
And ive been a cab before too.
It all makes sense now, SC is just a comedy skit and were the actors.
Crusader security - OK so you towed the HH, where did you tow it to? Another environment?
Me - no I towed it outside the environment.
Bahahah. Now i have to explain the funny to my gf… thanks
omg here is it again lmfao xd
500k to replace the rest of the ship when you dock I'm betting. I wouldn't call it worth it lol
If it was only 500k, that'd be cheap af for what is basically 3/4 of the ship replaced. Given current prices, the Polaris will cost between 60 and 100m. The 890J is 65m and it's no warship. Lol.
Yeah that's true. If you want to regularly use the Polaris they better add stock options in game because you gonna need to be rolling in creds to keep that thing afloat
don't worry, we are still flying half a ship!
I think you are confusing ships. The Endeavor and Caterpillar do this but the polaris was never advertised as doing such.
It would be nice if the Polaris could do the same. It's a surefire way for CIG to make more money, heh (/s). Though it would cut into development so it's for the best they don't.
EDIT: Damn, people really don't like this comment. Why?
I mean I can't find a flaw in that logic other than the dev time required lol. Sadly though that like 1 of the 2 bottlenecks CIG has though.
Plus the ship is basically complete and in it's polish stage. I wouldnt want them to scrap it for another two years just to add a feature like this that was never planned to begin with.
Same.... I'm looking forward to the new Polaris smell come November.
I am hoping for a production update before then though, just to see what it looks like and what they have left to do. Curiouse what the inside looks like with textures.
Next week's ISC is supposed to focus on Polaris and how it looks right now as it prepares to go into the game.
Cool thanks for letting me know. I'll have to keep a look out.
ISC comes out on Thursdays, and iirc it should be out by 11am EST, so would check some time around then
I'm pretty sure if they implemented it, they would release the ship first and then work on the separation feature. It's like how the caterpillar is in-game, but the separation part doesn't work yet.
except the ship wasnt designed for separation so it would have to be completely reworked up front. The separated part would need all kinds of things currently missing like... engines...
The engines could be hidden between the main body and "head." And pretty sure the front already has some maneuvering thrusters. But you also have seemed to miss my point of them releasing the ship and then working on the separation part later. So you still get your Polaris, and a while later (maybe a few months to a year, give or take), you get a new fancy feature.
Except there are parts of the ship and rooms there that would have to be moved and reworked.
I just see there are a lot of downvotes and by reddit law, i need to downvote it too.
:C
not sure why either lol. reasonable comment imo.
I hope you’re joking cause this would be a perfect example of people following „rules“ without thinking for themselves.
I don't mess with the votes but my eye twitched a little when I read, "surefire way for CIG to make more money"...strange to hear from the consumer side for me at least (a little kowtow-y)
It was meant to be a joke, but it seems to not have translated over text. I've added an /s to indicate that.
It's a surefire way for CIG to make more money, heh.
This is why people don't like the comment.
Guess people didn't get I was joking about that. Added an /s
I think a lot of us are tired of the slow pace of development and ravenously attack ideas or suggestions that we deem unworthy of the dev time. Like we would all agree it would be cool, BUT there are so many other basic things missing that we don't want CIG to be derailed from making the core game/features any more than necessary...unless the idea is OMEGACOOL
I won't downvote you because it's -69 right now. Just imagine one thing the caterpillar can do it because you access the cockpit from the side, where do you install reactors in your second picture and not behind because when the ship is complete that's where people access the cockpit
Nice.
I don't think the Polaris needs to, its a small enough ship that it can land in atmo (which is the reason the endeavor does it) and since its not a cargo ship you don't want to have the versatility to jet off and do something else while loading/unloading as with the cat. If every ship gets features like this it makes the ones that do have it less special.
This subreddit is a fickle mistress
despite the predominant circle jerk of sc community being the best, people are often pretty acrid in the sc community I find. Which is pretty common in gaming communities for whatever reason. But yeah there's absolutely zero reason to downvote your comment other than being grumpy
No, it was never supposed to do that.
I can see it now:
Captain: Everyone off the bridge and help the repair crews and repel borders. I will maintain the systems and firing control for what weapons we have left.
Bridge Crew member: But captain we are under attack, you cannot maintain them alone.
Captain: Nonsense, we are crippled we must defend against borders and repair the ship, I can handle the bridge functions. We will coordinate our efforts, you are needed elsewhere.
Bridge Crew evacuates the bridge.
Ship's computer: Bridge seperation in 3, 2. 1.
Bridge Crew: NOOOOO COME BACK AND DIE LIKE A MAN YOU BASTARD!
Drake fans reading this and looking at the caterpillar
I remember a part of the community had some debate over these seams shortly after the concept sale in 2016 but it never went any further than that.
you are thinking of the endeavor.
There was fan speculation at the time that it might do this but it was never advertised that it did. I wouldn't expect it.
It would be a fun surprise but I seriously doubt it. There was a lot of theorycrafting and speculation a while back, so some people started spreading it as a fact. As far as I know CIG hasn't ever stated that it would or even addressed the thought on this ship really.
It was a player idea to sepparate it from the rear or make it into a new ship https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/15bh4ip/the_polaris_front_section_can_detach_right_the/ . Honestly, I think this part of the Polaris would make a pretty cool looking ship.
This Misc Endeavour does this, not the Polaris.
Never even hinted at. You might be remembering someone's hope, dream, or wish.
speculation based on. the art alone, and wishful thinking as the endevor actually supposedly does this (whenever we finally get that ship)
It’s the endeavor and cater that are supposed to do that
That feature of seperated cockpit section was the .... caterpillar from Drake?. And also one of the old MISC concept ships too if I remember right
No thank you I like my Polaris NON MODULAR
The equivalent of Star Trek's saucer separation would be brilliant!
I want to see that repair bill landing the cockpit in a hangar.
You are remenbering a community-driven idea. However, it was never intended for this ship and was never sold as having the ability to do it.
As a Polaris owner, I did think it was a neat idea. I also understand why they never included it.
No, never heard of anything like this
I believe you're thinking of the Endeavor which did feature a bridge that separated out from the body of the ship to become an exploration ship.
I thought the talon shrike was supposed to do that
If you eject it first shoots the entire cabin and then the pilot. Or at least it is supposed to.
No
That was never a thing, you imagined it.
This coming from a Polaris backer from day one.
Negative, never officially confirmed to do that. Probably an overeager fan per usual lol
Negative, never officially confirmed to do that. Probably an overeager fan’s word per usual lol
lol Man, are you sure your not remembering the shitpost Morphologis did, where he said the Polaris combines with the 4 connies to form Voltron?
I don't ever remember the Polaris being able to do that, but the Endeavor is supposed to from what I remember.
This is giving me major Transformers 1984 movie vibes. https://youtu.be/mYQhV-tbWNM?feature=shared the Autobot Shuttles have a very similar profile, and they straight up detach the bridge to escape
That was fancanon. Caterpillar and Endeavor are still the only ones CIG has doing it.
No, it's never separated.
Are you thinking of the Endeavour?
That would be one hell of an insurance claim, lol.
I think only the caterpillar was marketed for doing that
It detaches to become the Zeus Mk. III PS.
I DREAM of saucer separation :)
On some ship.
Ok the Endeavour will have this.. one MORE ship then. Ok the Caterpillar somewhat.. one MORE ship. At least 3. Or 4. It's just so cool :D
.....did you make it intentionally look like a Warframe Orbiter?
I know the Endeavor and Cat are supposed to have this feature at some point.
Might be thinking of the galaxy I think it was or whatever the “modular” science cap ship was
o7 to the people in the turrets when if that were necessary
You're thinking about the Caterpillar
Nope, the only ships with detachable sub-ships that aren't snubs are the MISC Endeavor and the Drake Caterpillar.
I dont believe so.
I think the caterpillar was said to be getting this feature though.
Some threads offered it as a suggestion.. wouldn’t it be cool if?
Am I the only one who sees a duck in your painting?
Apparently not, oddly enough.
Wasn't the caterpillar supposed to do that too? Still waiting.
Well it'll have to wait because the Caterpillar has a command module that separates and guess what happened to that ship
Yeah no... That was like some "wouldn't it be cool ifs" the community was doing at the concept sale.
"Wouldn't it be cool if it could seperate it's bridge like the endeavor and caterpillar"
I THINK YOUR CONFUSING this with THE ENDEAVOR
Completely unrelated but I see a duck with your red outlines. Intentional? 😂
Yes. That is the size 12 torpedo it carries.
If this was the case I would make it a mission to utilize the rear half of the ship as a weapon in a chase.
The endeavor
You're thinking about the Drake Caterpillar
the bridge section of the caterpillar is supposed to disconnect but i dont remember anything about the polaris doing so.
Just because it isn't designed to doesn't mean it can't. Ask Anakin Skywalker.
You are thinking of the Caterpillar
Endeavor has that functionality. I have never heard of the Polaris having such functionality.
I dont recall anybody ever mentioning this.
I believe the Odyssey is the ship that does this. The Polaris kills idris.
Oh god, here we go
The images are very reminiscent of how the Landing Craft and the Orbiter are separated in Warframe. The second image is basically the Liset, so the idea might have been inspired by that.
Hm you have a point. I really hope the Connie gets a major rework though. I know it's a good ship, but I really hate how it looks. I'm not a fan of how long it is, or the elevator, or some of the wasted space in the cockpit, or how crappy the ladders are, etc etc. It feels like it could be a little bit wider and taller.
That feature will be patched in in about 10 years
A bunch of ships, I believe, are supposed to do this. The only one I can remember that I think was supposed to do this was the constellation series.
Nope, the only ships CIG ever mentioning this are the endeavor and the catapillar.
You can clearly see a sort of seam there in the "neck" of the ship. It also has those forward engines on the sides, so it is totally feasible.
I might be thinking of the Endeavor and how it is supposed to split to allow inserting the different modules, but I *swear* I remember seeing or hearing something about the Polaris having this ability too.
That's definitely the Endeavor yeah, I've never heard about that regarding the Polaris :P
I think that was player head canon. Concept didn’t say anything about that as far as I remember.
