Hi! I'm going to Italy and I would like to do day trips by train like from Venice to Verona and I found omio. Is it legit/safe? And how much in advance should I book the trains? :)
Third party booking sites work, but you're paying them a hidden fee. You can get the same tickets for slightly cheaper direct from Trenitalia.
^^^Find the fares on Omio, then book with the transport company themselves
This is what I do for flights, but with Expedia.
This is the way. Same goes for Skyscanner.
Ditto ... I liked Omio and Rome2Rio for getting the different route options for the different places I wanted to go between cities & countries (including planes, trains, busses), but then getting tix as locally as possible/direct with carrier.
I just used Omio yesterday in Spain, I didn't really compare with getting them direct as I had a few tickets to book. Omio made it easy. It's legit yes, worked seamlessly and sent notifications of any changes.
I just booked roundtrip tickets from Padova to Rome for mid August through Omio. Quick and easy. The site was in English and user friendly, so I didn't mind paying a few bucks extra.
Because July/August are high tourism months, it's a good idea to book in advance.
I’ve used Omio a bunch of times and never had an issue. One thing that can be a little inconvenient is sometimes they’ll give you a QR code for your ticket which is sometimes incompatible with the system at the station. So you might need to use the handicap turnstile if it’s the only one with a QR code reader. Or show a worker and they’ll let you through. I’ve done these things in the past and it’s always worked out fine.
Edit: now that I’m thinking about it, I had to do that in the UK. In Italy, you just get on the train and the ticket people eventually come around and check your ticket. Where again, my Omio ticket has always worked just fine.
Yes, Omio is convenient and legit, but if you’re short on cash or just want to save do what the other posters have suggested and look directly at the service providers.
