I have travelled a lot and stayed at many people’s homes and now wanna host others to give back. I live in Switzerland but I just saw that Couchsurfing now charges to make an account and I’ve heard from others that it’s gotten kinda bad and haven’t met and traveller in a while who mentioned it to me. Is it dead? How can I offer people to stay at my place?
I wanna host people for free; but couch surfing app costs now.
QuestionOh wait actually the owners of a luxury cabin hotel in Washington hosted me for free and told Me they’re on that platform. It seems to have worked for them. Imma give this a shot; thanks!
Im on a 6 week trip around Europe from canada. I joined couchsurfers a while ago because I thought it a great idea although i cannot host in my home. I had many responses and stayed with two different couples in two countries, the Nederland and Naples, Italy. What a fantastic experience both times. I’m a 71 year old woman and I’m travelling on my own.
This is really inspiring. Happy travelling!
are you a woman?
then host a sister Facebook group :)
Nope I’m not xD
I love host a sister!!!
So you have to pay to let people stay in your house for free?
That’s crazy
Yes, both sides need to pay to use the app
To deter weirdos trying to charge sexual favours I would imagine. Not that common I know but probably still more common than you think..
Try trustroots.org
Like you, I stopped using couchsurfing but still wanna give back to the travelling community and I have tried hosting on trustroots. So far so good.
Try BeWelcome.org. They’re also on IG.

Where about in Switzerland? I’m going to be in lauterbrunnen area in late sept/ early October then making my way to Italy for a few days, then coming back through Switzerland before I head out.
In Kanton Schaffhausen
PM me your insta I will follow you and message you if I ever travel to Switzerland lol
It's not dead nor is it bad. It's less than $1.50 a month for the annual plan so it's worth it.
Edit: lol what's with the downvotes? I've been using CS all year and it's been great.
I think in r/couchsurfing there have been some posts about alternatives to the "official" couchsurfing app. I'm not sure if any of those alternatives have really taken off though.
