Our approach is "May We Plant More Flowers". Rather than not mowing for a month, take back a bit of your yard each year with seasonal plants to help native pollinators.

I quit mowing my lawn over the course of a few years. The first two years had the most noxious weeds. I pulled the worst offenders like hedge parsely on-sight and they radically diminished to the point now where I can keep the unwanted weeds under control easily.
There has been a surprisingly diverse amount of plants pop up since. Many "weeds," of course, but also many wildflowers, herbs, and legumes. My yard has consistent nectar flow much earlier in the season than my grass-lawn neighbors.

When I don't mow, my lawn gets taken over by invasive weeds that choke out the grass.
Like the “grass” is not invasive
The grass prevent soil erosion. The weeds I get do not. They leave large patches of dirt and die back regularly after killing the grass.
You know those “weeds” are usually less invasive than the grass, right?
