I’ve always had roommates or lived with my parents. But now that I’m living alone, I feel scared at night. I’m living in a condo and I know it’s very safe because there’s a concierge and security 24/7. Can someone give me tips other than dating, drugs, alcohol and meditating please.
I’m scared because I recently watched Stranger Things. So I get scared by even the littlest sound in the night. Hopefully this will pass right?
i take it your pretty young ? so your scared that monsters or aliens or somthing might get you ? i think that’s natural at a young age but you need to remember them thing arnt real its just a tv show
I’m not young at all. But I would say I had a pretty sheltered life and this is the first time in my whole life that I’m figuring out everything by myself. Thank you.
how old are you then not like you need to hide your age here ??
i understand try thing about things logically you have nothing realistically that can hurt you and if things like stranger things trigger you don’t watch them
I got some battery operated candles. They came with a remote so I turn them on, and watch the flames dance around on my walls. I turn on a meditation app and it helps me ground myself.
I leave on the candles and can turn them off with the remote if I feel “safe” enough.
I have night time fears (childhood stuff) and the thought of going to sleep is extremely challenging for me.
I also have cameras and an alarm. 🫣
Hope this helps.
Edited to add: I have to force myself not to watch my favorite types of shows, and stick to comedy only.
Thank you.
You should get a big teddy bear. 🧸
Sounds like there’s maybe deeper anxiety issues.
Don’t watch scary shows! I eliminated scary content and it makes all the difference’s . Every once in a while when I do, it takes a few days to recover.
You may have a dependency disorder. Some people cannot function well alone and they have a hard time being alone. Look into it and seek help if needed. For some it is so bad they would prefer to stay with a disfunctional partner rather than being alone.
how old are you? what if you talk to friends/family on the phone before sleeping?
They live in a different country. I usually watch a funny tv show but I end up watching it till about 5am.
I'm 24 and I still sleep next to my dad or ask my brother to sleep next to me. I sleep with lights on. Tbh, nothing wrong being scared of dark, I've accepted myself the way I am.
Have you tried to keep tv on with some calm and familiar serie? I use Friends🤭
I second this. Also anything that is comedy/something that you find humorous to watch or listen to.
OP, I have a few different mental disorders, one of which is OCD (if you wanted to you could actually look into that as a possibility) and often causes intrusive thoughts when sleeping alone at night. Having something I genuinely enjoy watching, particularly comedy, helps. Friends is definitely a good choice!
I just make friends with the local ghosts wherever I’m at
you need to ask your self what are you scared of exactly ?
