If we compress human existence and major technological breakthroughs into a 24-hour day:
- Modern humans would appear at midnight
- Agriculture would start at about 11:30 PM
- The Industrial Revolution would begin at 11:59:30 PM
- Electricity and electric light would come at 11:59:42 PM
- Computers would appear at 11:59:52 PM
- The Internet would arrive at 11:59:57 PM
- Modern deep learning (14 years ago) ≈ 11:59:59 PM
- LLMs become prominent (4-6 years ago) ≈ 11:59:59.5 PM
We're incredibly lucky to witness this technological explosion when for 'hours,' people's lives remained unchanged. I still can't wrap my mind around it.
That perspective makes you wonder, maybe singularity already happened in the grand scheme of things.
I'd rather be alive when humans are an interstellar civilization; but this is second best :)
