DistroKid vs. TuneCore vs. Soundbaby: Which One's Got the Edge? (Opinion)
DistroKid vs. TuneCore vs. Soundbaby: Which One's Got the Edge? (Opinion)

Hey folks,

So, you're looking to get your music out there and you're checking out distribution platforms. Cool (and me too !!)! Let's talk about three big players: DistroKid, Tunecore, and Soundbaby. Now, I've explored them all, and here's the lowdown:

1. Cost:

  • Tunecore: You pay upfront for each release plus yearly fees. It can add up.
  • DistroKid: Flat yearly fee for unlimited uploads. Perfect for those dropping tracks left and right.
  • Soundbaby: Pricing is a bit mysterious. Not as transparent as the others.

2. Speed of Distribution:

  • Tunecore: Takes its sweet time, usually a few days.
  • DistroKid: Lightning-fast. Seriously, your music can be up in hours.
  • Soundbaby: Speed varies, but not as widely known for being speedy.

3. Royalty Payments:

  • Tunecore: Artists get all their royalties, no cut for TuneCore.
  • DistroKid: Same deal, plus it's easy to divvy up royalties if you've got collaborators.
  • Soundbaby: Kinda in the shadows here. Not much info on how they handle royalties.

4. Additional Features:

  • Tunecore: Offers extras like publishing admin and YouTube monetization. Pretty sweet.
  • DistroKid: Loads of cool stuff like hyperfollow landing pages and Shazam inclusion. Nifty!
  • Soundbaby: Not much buzz about their extras. They might have some, but who knows?

5. User Interface and Experience:

  • Tunecore: It's alright, but can be a bit clunky for some.
  • DistroKid: Smooth as butter. Seriously, uploading music is a breeze.
  • Soundbaby: Hard to judge. Not as many users talking about their experience.

So yeah, if you're after something quick, affordable, and easy to use, DistroKid's the winner in my book. But hey, each platform has its perks, so pick the one that suits your style best! What does everybody else think?

Cheers!
