Is it just me or Nathalia speak English when she wants to lol
Bang all the ladies for JesusYea I think it's normal that she would give it an attempt. It is way not normal that Garrick has not at all. Duolingo is minutes a day and they can certainly afford some Rosetta Stone.
This. My son is 8 and is learning German on duolingo BY HIMSELF. Why? He simply wants to. He's becoming proficient, and once he has a decent handle on German, he will then attempt French or Italian.
If my lil guy can do it AS A HOBBY surely adults can out of necessity...
My son learned Russian on duolingo . I didn't realize how proficient he had become until he was able to have a conversation with a Russian checker one day. It was funny because he had developed the habit of only swearing in Russian when in public or around his grandparents. That day, I accidentally ran into him with the cart. It made him
say some swear. The checker looked surprised and started talking to him in Russian. That was like 3 years ago, and he still brings it up. It was the first time he actively used his new skills. We live in a small town that's not very diverse, so it's rare for him to get a chance. I kinda wish he wasn't as proficient because his movie Night Picks are usually Russian action moves, and he always wants the subs off so he can test himself, lol. I feel like it's more common nowadays in the US for kids to want to learn a second language. My son has several friends who taught them selves a language over lockdown.
I love this! I imagine your right because these kids have far more options and tools than we had. Learning in a class room setting isn't the easiest way to grasp a new language, but these apps make it easy. Kids are glued to tablets and phones anyway so its good if they can develop something useful out of it.
I totally agree. I use Duolingo also. Its so easy to use. I find I can talk a little, i understand what they are saying though. We go to Mexico. We would never dream of going to a foreign country and not understand the language.
Exactly! I feel its disrespectful to not even attempt to learn. We expect people to try when they come here, its absolutely wrong to not do the same when going abroad.
This is amazing
It really is. Im proud of him for it!
They could even watch the YT a guy that learns a lot of languages quickly. He started learning Chinese and now speaks a lot of languages. Even obscure languages. He’s a great guy. Xiamen I think is his name, I sub to him.
Garrick doesn't seem to be one to demonstrate a lot of common sense
Or maybe he is waiting for God to tell him to learn a new language.
I might make an insta profile for God and start telling Garlique stuff that people suggest on here lmfao
Please do!
Karine of 90 Day did somehow manage to pick up English due to her attendance at an English language improvement center, despite her hometown requiring traveling by a boat and to communicate well with her now ex Paul. Even improved when she stepped in to the States.
If you want to learn, you can. It really shows Garlique's lack of effort
Ick thinks he speaks the Language of Love.
With his penis
It's actually the holy spirit in his sperm. GET IT RIGHT
/s
More like the holy germ in his sperm.
Hahaha
Holy germ is exactly how I would describe this show
Don't get too close to the TV, you could catch something!
The Davis family disgusts me in particular to no end.
Oh, yes. Disgusting and disturbing.
Is it close minded of me to not want this for Vera? I am glad she has a present dad. HOWEVER is he really sending the best messages...
He may end up with some “ germs”. His wife needs to ask all prospective wife’s he sleeps with to be tested for STD’s. Full panel.
They just say "yeah?" in Bert's voice to Nathalia and are like NAILED IT
I started not even two weeks ago and I think I speak more Portuguese just from HelloTalk and Busuu lol. This guy really divorced the mother of his children to marry a Brazilian, and all he can say is “bom dia” and “obrigado”.
3 years and counting. What the fuck, lol
She is definitely proficient in smelling lies & BS and (icks) she'll make a great lawyer 😁.
Yeah there’s all levels of proficiency. I feel like she speaks English about as well as I speak Spanish. I took it (and Latin) in school, but that was years ago so I don’t remember very much. If it’s very basic syntax I can read it, although I won’t know every word. I can’t really understand much of what a native speaker says if they’re talking at their natural speed, but I can get the gist of it if they talk slow and use basic vocabulary. No one way would I be comfortable trying to converse on a Spanish tv show without a translator, even if I did pick up some of what was being said. If I asked how many dating apps someone has, I’d certainly be able to understand “diez” without the translation lol.
Totally agree that it’s strange to specifically pursue Brazilian women without making any attempt at learning Portuguese. I never understand on any of these shows how people expect to carry on a relationship without any shared language on either end.

I said in a different post that I think she’s faking not knowing English. I think it’s a good plan!😂🙄
I didn't see it sorry lol. I caught on when she seemed to know what they were talking about and was like "Translator! Translator!" like lady just say it! lol
There’s a big difference between receptive language skills (listening and reading) and productive (speaking or writing).
Yes! Typically people understand better when they hear or read but find speaking and writing the new language more difficult. Receptive language skills are developed sooner than expressive/productive.

I bet they haven’t even tried DuoLingo.
seriously - just an hour on that and you can say Eu sou uma mulher. if i can do it they can too
They rely on Google Translate.
Google translate is super inaccurate and overly literal. Nathalia probably grasps this and Garlique doesn't. Danielle is like the dog in the open credits of the simpsons who gets hit with a frisbee across the eye balls and doesn't flinch
Agree with this. Notice how she’d rather communicate in broken English when she’s communicating something important.
Yup
Gauranteed
I doubt Danni wants to learn Portuguese or Spanish ick would even more force her to use that to get laid.
She probably does know more than she is letting on. Understanding and speaking can be at 2 different levels.
She does seem to be smart. I have no doubt that she is deliberately doing this.
I would think it’s like anything - if she’s actively listening and then looking at the translation, she could start putting things together. I know I do that in other situations where I’m , for example, watching a video on how to do something that has a pattern. I then go back to the pattern and compare it to the video so that next time I can try it on my own first. I would think that over time listening to them and then reading the translation, she start to pick up on key words and phrases. And after five years I’d think Garlic and Danielle could be speaking in complete words and sentences using the same theory, but clearly that’s not the case.
My husband speaks a foreign language, and i learned some. When I listen I know what they are talking about but I am not great at speaking. So I get that.
Same for me. Exactly the same.
When i moved to the US i understood English (from watching random English shows) but couldn’t speak it. Might be the case with Natalia
I speak pretty good Spanish but when native speakers are saying something important, I want to know I haven’t misunderstood. I do think that is a part of it
Totally and they have zero cognizance as far as trying to make themselves understood by her
English is very hard for Brazilians to speak because the phonetics are so different.
But I think she took some classes in college. When she communicates in English it’s not advanced concepts, just numbers and basic verbs that aren’t conjugated. She’s smart enough to speak it badly when she wants to emphasize what she says is important, which a translator can’t do.
I think she’s maybe like A2 in English but this is her first chance to use it. Brazilians don’t really learn foreign languages so frequently because the size of the country, coupled with their natural borders. But she’s clearly intelligent so I don’t doubt that she completed law school, probably learned some English then.
As a Brazilian, I can share that we learn foreign languages in school (such as Basic English and Spanish) and often attend Language Schools before or after regular classes. Even if your family cannot afford typical Language Schools, there are some that offer scholarships. Additionally, some “free” language programs are taught by students majoring in English. There are many different ways to learn, even if it’s just the basics.
Speaking for myself, I don’t find English difficult to speak. Yes, it can be tricky at times, but the same can be said for any language, whether it’s your native tongue or a second language.
I was thinking this. I've known so many Brazilians who are polyglots and speak perfect English.
See, for example, Larissa of 90 Day Fiance. Her T is pronounced as tee as in her ex Coltee instead of colt. Even her e is long.
I sort of think that is just for the show
Selective English! I speak selective Spanish and French lol
I loved the look of terror on his face when she said speak to me in English 😂 he knew he couldn't lie his way out of it .
As someone going to a Spanish speaking country after 6 yrs of Spanish at school… I was much better at understanding what others were stating than speaking it myself. It uses two different parts of the brain to translate what you speak and to translate what you hear. Maybe that’s what’s happening here.
It's possible she's picking up on some commonly used words. If you have regular exposure to a second language it can be easy to pick up on parts but not all of what's being said. Just my take. She might not be faking it. I mean.. garrick seems like the kind who needs to seek out women who don't fully understand him. He hopes to nail them down before they see he's a weirdo, dumb, creeper.
I feel like you don’t need to speak the language to catch those vibes.
Yeah, she clearly picks up on the hostility during their conversations.
If God wanted them to learn a new language, they would have just woken up fluent one day. God's plan 😅
Best reply yet!
She seems like a bright woman, despite the fact that she's into Ick. So I wouldn't doubt it.
You can see she listens to sick while he speaks, and even responded.
She apparently just posted on reddit in English so yes
Possibly that was translated before posting and possibly it’s not her at all. People are doubting the validity.
Wait, what am I missing?
In terms of what?!
She's probably bilingual in some sense. She's a lawyer so in case some Americans clients need help down there she can help.
Do you have any experience learning a second language and then communicating with native speakers?
About as well as you OP, based on your poor grammar and missed words. Lol.
I have a ton of people in my daily life who don’t think they do not speak “good English” and apologize for it constantly. While they have strong accents, I understand every word they say and they seem to understand me perfectly.
I think it's out of a sense of American entitlement. As they are bringing her to the Promised Land, they don't feel the need to learn her language or even get to know her culture. He is despicable. She's just kind of dumb.
My brother in law has several Brazilian relatives. I had his cousins stay with me at different times many years ago. They live in Brazil and visited frequently. They spoke Portuguese but understood some English. I was able to communicate. They are educated people. Only a subhuman idiot with a Brazilian fetish wouldn't bother to learn the language. I'm sure Nathalia understands alot.

USA doesn't have an official/native language on the books. In England, their indigenous language is English. If we did that here (require someone know the native language) it's actually like 500 indigenous languages lol and English ain't one of them. English is the most popular, but USA doesn't require you to know English to be American for a huge variety of reasons, but maybe most importantly cuz this isn't England
First, it's called the 6-month Spousal Visa. Second, he's a Colombian
That stings that he was off handedly called Mexican lmfao Never saw the show
I was like "they call it K1 in the UK?!?"
Language acquisition is complex, and you've written this like someone suspicious of bi- or multi-lingual people.
OP, wait until Nathalia comes by and reply in this post. She is somewhere in this sub and if she reads this and reply, you'll be in shock.
Have reverence for the Savior and Lord Jesus.
She’s smart and has picked up some English; maybe she’s not proficient enough to be comfortable doing it on camera. The real concern to me is that D and Ick have been on a fetish hunt for Brazilian women for years and haven’t learned ANY Portuguese.
