The Tornado was equipped with Infrared and thermal image scanners. After Days of searching the german government called in the Bundeswehr with around a hundred of soldiers and jets to help searching
German Tornado Fighter Jet used in a search and rescue operation for a 6 yo boy in Germany. Unfortunately no luck, Arian is still missing
Ok, if that really happened then that was an absolute overkill
Edit: I mean it as a joke. A fighter jet against an active shooter sounds insane. I called it overkill because that sounded like the RAF wants to Airstrike the shooter
Wäre es dann doch auch in deinem Fall…
Findest du? Die Suche nach einem vermissten Kind darf nicht am finanziellen scheitern. Man sollte alle Hebel in Bewegung setzen
Meine Antwort war eine Ăśberspitzung auf deinen vorher uneditieren "Witz". Es war klar erkennbar im Konjunktiv.
Not knowing the capability of the jet, I'm not sure if this is genius, or a sign of insufficient SAR resources - but hopefully someone has success.
They didn't find him yet unfortunately. The tornado was equipped with thermal image scanners to locate the boy. They also used Helicopters and drones, SAR dogs, Horses and hundreds of volunteers, local fire departments, Police and a Bundeswehr Battalion but the searching area was huge including fields and a big forest and the boy has autism, the parents claimed he won't respond to his name. But the boy is missing since 16 days, it looks bad for him. They stopped the search after a week after they searched evey stone in the area twice. The police is still on it, a task force is checking every track and informations coming from the public that could lead to the boy
That thing will fly exercises anyways, so why not use it for something useful
As someone who has flown SAR from a fixed wing aircraft, speed is only your friend to get on scene, then it’s low & slow with multiple search observers & another just for the sensors & let the pilots be pilots
What kind of aircraft did you fly? I think they used the tornado because it could search a big area in short time and was quickly available, but I also know that these things are not made for low and slow flying search operations.

Nice looking machine. Coast guard?
Google Aerorescue, as it won’t let me post a picture, private company on a government contract
A jet seems like an odd choice of search vehicle but I may well be speaking out of ignorance here.
I hope everything works out OK.
Thermal image scanners. The idea was searching for heat signature and send the searching teams to them
Are there any bodies of water nearby?
Already searched.
I recall they used RAF Tornadoes when they were searching for an active shooter in the UK.
